DIY Rims
I just got done painting my rims gunmetal, and they look amazing, exact match to rims people have paid $$$$ for. And its easy!
1) I recomend the spray paint sold by Pep Boys, best colors. You will need 1 can of spray (sounds low but its true), 1 can of clear (if you want that shine), and two coats of primer.
-Tape off your tires, we found that most tapes suck, esp. if you use tire shine, but as long as most of the tire is covered your good.
2) Take the tire off, all four if you have stands for your car, makes it easier. Take a soft sand paper and rough em up. The shine should be gone from the major parts.
3) Spray on a coat of primer and let dry about 15 min.
4) Another primer, another 15 min.
5) Your first coat of paint. Let dry 15 min.
6) Time to sand again, this time GO LIGHTLY! Barely there scratches are perfect, dont want to do it like the first time.
7) two more coats of paint, 15 min in between each, and then your clear! Give your clear AT LEAST an hour to dry before putting the tires back on your car. And then if possible, let them sit for awhile once on your car. I let mine sit till 4 P.M. the next day. Didnt want any paint marks!
But there ya go, super easy and fun. Plus DIY mods just rock. And they look amazing, not cheaply done at all.
