Talking How-To: Painted Headlights w/ CLEAR Corners

Hey eveyone, here is my version of painted headlights with a slight twist... Clear Corners. This is my first attempt at a How-To so bear with me.

First off here is a link to a how to for painted headlights… it’s the one I used and it is awesome so no need to repeat… Props to Mugencivicsi for putting that together.

Appearance How To: Paint YOur HeadLights (lots Of Pics) 56k (mabye) - Cobalt SS Network

Tools needed for clear corners:
-Dremel
-Hair dryer
-rubberbands
-JB Weld (kwik)
-1 sheet of 2’x2’ replacement fluorescent lens…. This is like the cover that goes over fluorescent lights and can be found at Lowes in the light cover isle about $3

1) Once the headlight is apart; pop out the orange reflectors (round is the turn signal and the rectangle or corner)

2) With these out flip the rectangle reflector over and trace it onto the clear plastic. Make sure you position the plastic so that the smooth side will face the outside of the headlight. Don’t worry if you mess up there is plenty of plastic to go around…lol.
Also make sure to trace it a little bigger than the reflector so there is room to play with.

3) Next cut out the plastic with the Dremel and smooth the edges to get rid of any excess plastic.

4) Once the clear corner is cutout, rubber band the plastic to the old orange reflector (see pic) Then slowly heat up the plastic until the clear corner bends to resemble the same shape of the reflector. Let is cool before removing rubber bands so the plastic doesn’t relax back.

5) Now for the fun part… After PAINTING the headlights, put the clear corner in by JB Welding it to the headlight housing. Start at the top and work your way to the bottom of the corner…. Make sure to check the front so you can not see any JB Weld from the front, bc it will look like S*#t, trust me on that one… lol.

6) Once both are done assemble the headlights again, just WITHOUT the orange reflectors.

7) As an added touch I recommend buying orange bulbs to replace the old clear ones to make your car street legal. I painted the new bulbs silver so that when off it is a clean look but when lit they flash orange. Pretty cool stuff…lol

And here is the finished product!!!

Thanks, hopefully this helps… if you got questions just PM me.

Nice how-to. It's a lot better looking than the orange reflector. Got any good pics of it on the car?

Very nice. Won't the paint burn off the bulbs after a while though?

In most cases people who try to be differant and do things to their cars do horrible jobs. In this case it would be the exact oppisite. Your headlights are one of the best looking on the site IMO. I want to give out major props for trying something new and sharing the information with the rest of us.

You know, I can install intakes, and exhaust, and change oil. Hell, I even installed my own GMP stage II kit. When it comes to these headlights though, I never did anything like it. I don't want to mess them up and I'm a perfectionalist.

yes the paint is slowly burning off but its still worth painting them once in a while to have that clean look... besides the paint is like $1 a can...lol

thanks guys for all the comments.. its nice to know when hard work pays offs... and brocklanders you should def go with the gunmetal on the headlights... it looks amazing with the red body color

I was going to suggest the same, it would save some hassle in the long run. I thought I heard Silverstars make the same type of bulb. Also I've seen LEDs bulbs used

They have some bulbs like that at PFYC

Silverstar does make turnsignal bulbs that are silver and blink orange. Any local Advance Auto Parts or Autozone should have them. I think they are like $9 and then you would save the shipping money as well
