Big Thanks to "blktrax" - Removal made EASY!!!

Kudo's to "blktrax" - you're awesome!!!

2009 Cobalt LT 2.2 LAP... running a K&N 69-4515TS Typhoon Cold Air Intake. Just followed your "GM Service Instructions" and what an easy removal. Didn't even have to remove the headlight or the headlight bracket. Did what you advised... removed the rim, removed I think 7 bolts holding the splashguard in and the 1 plastic pin, pulled the guard back, removed the bolt on the resonator, popped the plastic retainer out and bada bing bada boom - It came out. Cleaned the entire area and reassembled the splashguard. Done. Not exactly 5 minutes but for sure under 20 including the jacking of the car!!!

Due to the fact I am already running the K&N, I can't really notice more growl but I am sure that it will now have much better air flow and colder (live in Canada - not short on cold air ) Little bit shocked at the size of the resonator... expected it to be this little pipe. I snapped a pick to give a perspective of the size of it.

Thanks again "blktrax" - on to my next mod!!!

If I can figure out how to add a pic of the resonator, I will and one of my K&N (Looks awesome) - When I try to insert a pic, it asks for the URL of the pic??? Any suggestions?

Ok so i just got done doing this mod wow what a pain.. I was stuck for about an hour on the plastic pin under the intake.. best thing to do is take the fender well halfway u don't have to take it all the way off..just pull a bit and you can completely see the plastic pin that you've been tugging at for about and hour..Take pliers and pull it out and bam done. But thanks Great mod and a much deeper tone even with my megan racing exhaust

did this mod yesterday, well worth it. better throttle response, and definitely a nicer deeper tone.

only certain CAI's are "CARB" legal, like the GM one and a few select others. Depends on what state you're in and what type of emissions testing they have. Some states they just hookup a hose to your tailpipe and make sure it's not emitting too many bad gases, in NY/Cali they're a lot more involved (inspection, testing, etc)

yea i just talked to my local emissions test place and they said as long as the CAI allows the engine to warm up to a closed loop and that the computer must be able to regulate the right air:fuel ratio then it would be ok. Yea my car is a 2006 and they require that all car newer than 1995 be inspected and the computer be tested. so it might be worth a little money to buy an AEM CAI and see what happens. worst case senario, I put the stock intake system on a month before testing. she also said the exhaust system usually does effect emissions so were good there.

yep a CAI only increase airflow a tiny tiny amount, hence why you're lucky if you get 5hp (2whp) - it wont have any adverse effects on your emissions testing, nor will this mod (the airbox mod that this post is about)

So will this make any noticeable difference if I have the GMPP intake? I never really thought to take it out , but if it will make a difference I will. If not, I got better things to do with my time hahahahahahaha

I just finished taking it out, THAT SUCKED!! I couldn't get the fender thing off to get to the other screw for some reason, so I just took a saw and cut it off! I hope it's worth it, it took long enough! lol

of course it did, it only increases air flow by like maybe 1-2%, might be good for like 1hp..
