I did mine in the dark two weeks ago. Took off the inner fender cover and unbolted it and pulled it right out. No headlight removal or anything. I then cut all the crap off of it, pulled the one on the top off, then filled holes. I just put some extra dynomat extreme I had laying around over the holes on the inside, asphalt and aluminum, it ain't goin nowhere. Reinstalled it now "smoothed", then carried my but down to pepboys, got a 3" 90, a 4" straight, and a 22 degree angle, two 3" couplings and a vacuum tube install kit, just a whole saw kit with like a dozen different adapter tubes, , $60 total I think. Removed factory violin case (or whatever you call it) cut the 90 to fit under the hood when sitting on the throttle body (if I could find a rubber 90 i'll use it) and cut one coupling in half (shorter) to attach 90 to TB. Attached 4" piece to 90, and 22 angle to that and the other coupling connects to the factory air box after the MAF sensor. Install filter of choice (K&N here), drive. Not the loadest, but it breathers 1000x better. Pic in profile of completed project.
For the moisture issue get a AEM 20-40 Air Intake Bypass Valve

i did that yesterday at work. no performance increase. very loud sound increase. sounds great with the SS exhaust IMO. it's called the "intake resonator." i'm probably going to pull the top canister off and seal the bottom one and stick the pipe back on.

just did this to an 07... there are three extra fastners that hold on the parts taken off. but other than that it took about 30 min and it sounds great makes a bit more power and pulls alot harder up top... only other part is a kn filter and some royal purple oil.... runs strong. thanks alot for the writeup

just did it, real easy if you pull away the inner fender, i didnt get much of a SOTP feel and the sound is slightly deeper/ louder during hard accel, maybe its cause i had the windows open. in any case it was free and the car turned on so good mod!

Yeah, it sounds like he has an intake. Add a K&N crop-in and it'll probably sound even better.
By installing the K&N intake, your whole airbox assembly should have been taken off, including the resonator. If not, take it off. It may help get some cooler air inside the engine bay by creating a hole that's being blocked by the resonator.

you don't need to take the airbox off at all
just crawl under, and undo the resinator from the under side.
