Can i swap my shift knob?

Can i swap my shift knob?
I have the stock shifter [07 ss/sc] and it uses that safety pull for reverse. If i want to change the knob do i have to replace my whole shifter assembly or what? im not sure if that safety is part of the knob or not, but i want to get rid of that and also change the knob to a weighted one
