Halfcent's Crate Engine Depot Meet Follow-up
So here are all of my pictures from meet day this past Saturday.
Cars lined up
Hey, what's with that TC?
Then we did a deck lid swap. Small wing for big wing. It went pretty easy.
Another group was inside the shop using the equipment available to install Sportlines on TCarters 2.4SS.
Some nice engine bays. This is an L61 using the LE5 manifold and CED's throttle body adapter plate.
There was also a classic car show going on at the same time. Here is the 1967 Camaro RS that I want with factory air, 327 V8, automatic, and those flip-out headlights. I even liked the color:
This is a '57 Chevy with a twin turbo and custom gauge cluster!
Other cars as well. What the hell is that Solstice doing in there?

ECM programming follow up!
While at the meet, we where able to hook up some cars to the GM Tech 2 and dealer world on-line to see about what exactly we can and can not do at a dealership. We scored about 50% on our items:
1. Can you change the tire size within the ECM to maintain a speedometer calibration?
Yes, but not much. And it varies with what kind of car you have. For instance, I have a 2005 L61 engine. That car came with only two tire sizes from the factory. 205/55r16, or 195/60r15. You can choose between either of those, and that's it. However, lets say you want to get the very popular size of 225/40r18 on your base 15" wheeled car. Without changing anything, your speedo would run 3.6% off. But if you have the dealership change you to the 16" wheel size, you would now only be 0.8% off, so that's a good option.
Additionally, when you select tire size, you also select whether you have a manual or automatic. I don't know what difference that would make. It probably just tells the ECM whether or not it needs to control a TCM.
2. Can you turn SAI off?
YES! Boy that was a big one. We are very happy to report that the technique listed in the SAI sticky thread does work. In fact, you select it at the same time you pick the wheel size described above. If you have SAI, your car's ECM will have the "NU3" RPO code selected for the system. Just change that to "NF4/NT7". That will turn off SAI. There ya go!
3. Can you change gauge clusters?
Nope. We lost on that one. There were no variables within either the ECM or the cluster itself that switched which type of cluster you have. I haven't given up on this one yet however. There has to be a way to tell the car which one you have. So, I happen to have a spare white gauge cluster. I'm going to see if I can find a fellow local member with the black cluster that would like to swap, just to see if it works without having to switch anything at all. That would be nice.

Yeah, it was in the Chicago area. It's been advertised here on the board for a month. It was at CED in Arlington Heights.
If you want to drive down to Oak Park where I live one day to swap it out, that would be fine. I'll even let you keep it if it works, I certainly don't need two.

Yes, we did swap the lock cylinders. I know, 'cuz I'm the guy that did it!
It's easier to do the whole lid rather then just the wing as we learned specifically because of the gasket. It's glued VERY tight. You could tear it off, but then you have to replace it too.

Both trunk lids were in excellent shape too so both owners were happy. we also found that the factory cross threaded the antenna on one of the cars. We tried to put a shorty antenna on it but literally could not get the darn original antenna off -- and we removed the complete assembly from out of the trunk area too! It was SO tight that the aluminum backside was stripping when we tried to hold it from turning. The antenna had been pulled out of the holding bracket inside the trunk because it had been torqued on rather then getting it on right! Someone else posted that it was impossible to get their antenna off -- I think his was cross threaded too, now that I saw this one.
