Midwest Ecotec: Discussion

Yeah yeah yeah... I will likely be up there Wed working on the tuning... if it is a complete fail, I will prolly throw my car on the dyno, if Dave doesn't beat me to it. And, if that doesn't happen, I will prolly just start tearing it apart. I figure if I can get mine all taken apart before Friday, I can work on putting it back together Friday, and then we can likely get yours almost done Friday too.
It shouldnt be too bad now that I know what I am doing.

I dont think I am going to be able to make it next friday guys... My car keeps spitting oil out of the dipstick.. I heard it was the intake manifold gasket.. so I changed that and the car was fine for a few days.. then it happened again.. so i brought it to the dealer and.. they said they fixed it.. got it backk. spit oil out yesterday again.. I think i may have blown my piston rings.. so we will see if they fix it by next friday.. hopefully!.. but I doubt it'll be done

Yeah, I won't be in til about 1030. No way in hell I am getting up before 8 for you guys, lol.
Hey man, thats DEF your PCV valve. The dipstick is popping out because there is too much pressure in your crankcase. Or, if its not popping out, it is finding a way to relieve pressure by pushing oil past the dipstick. Not sure what yours is actually doing, but I am quite certain its the PCV. Take it to the dealer, and tell them to check it.
It would absolutely NOT be your rings, as that lowers your compression, which would also relieve crankcase pressure by seeping oil past the rings, into the combustion chamber, thus burning oil.

dealership called my dad today.. they said that the a ring is blown or somthing.. they are saying that it would cost more to fix it then to replace the whole engine. they said the new engine would be about 5400.... anyone know somewhere that would be cheaper... cuz thats a lot of money right there..
they said they can't do it under warranty because I have a different pulley.. catalytic converter.. different injectors.. and so on.. this is some bs..

Ask them what evidence they have of this. If they say they used a scope, tell them to show you, because I VERY HIGHLY doubt the rings are causing this issue. Did you read my post in reply to yours?!

yeahh i heard that the intake manifold gasket caused the problem. I changed it myself.. didnt help.. it started doing it again.. then i brought it to the dealer.. they changed the same gasket and the supercharger gasket. it was fine for a few days then did it again. they said they did a compression test. I forgot exactly what they said cuz my dad talked to them.. but they said it seems like blow by or somthing and a cracked ring is probably causing it

Well, I am sticking with PCV valve. PCV is under $200 to do. Def worth it before completely redoing the motor. The 'blow by' the dealer may be seeing could also be caused by a bad PCV valve, as it pressurizes the crankcase, its looking for some way to get out. Its going to push past the rings, causing it to look like you might have ring issues.
The intake manifold gasket could have been blocking it, which is why it was recommended to you. Get the compression test results and post them up. Until then, don't do anything.

i jsut talked to my dad again.. the guy that was doing the tests on my car i guess did a compression test all were 220. but when he did a leak down test. the 4th cylinder dropped to 60.. i guess its not holding the pressure back or somthing

where is the pcv valve? would i be able to do it myslef? cuz yeah i dont get it my car runs absolutley fine other then the fact it spits oil when i get up to like 17-19 boost

Also, don't take it back to the dealer to get the motor done. We could rebuild that sucker with fully forged internals for less that $5k.
