Window Tint in Michigan

I knw the laws in michigan are any darkness on back and rear side windows and top 4 inches of front windows and windsheild.

My question is, could i get away with getting like 20% on all 3 back ones and 35% on the driver and passenger window?? And also how would that look??

it all depends on the cop man, ive had all my vehicles limo tinted except for windshields...and just got pulled over the other day and i was talking to the cop and he said he didnt feel safe because you never know what is behind the window. he was really cool about it though. ive also talked to other cops and they said they could care less...so its really up to you

I was pulled over 4 times in my last car for 35% on the fronts. This car, I have 5% and only got pulled over once. Luck of the draw.

Just noticed where you're from...Howell and brighton city cops are ****** about it, windows down if you see one. Livingston sheriff is iffy.

I've only been pulled over once for mine and the dept. that pulled me over is a dick for everything anyways. I've never had problems elsewhere.

Yeah, before I got my Cobalt SS/SC I had a 01 Cavalier 2dr with 35% on my driver and passenger side door. And limo of course on the rear quarter windows and the back...

Anyways...

I got pulled over twice. Once in Dearborn and the other in Livonia.... And I had two friends that also had goten in trouble with some cops regarding window tint in Livonia as well...

It just depends. I had tint on my windows for like 2-3 yrs before I started getting in trouble for it...
Finally just got the 35% removed when I gave the car to my brother...

I don't think so personally... Obviously it's not going to look as well of a transition from the doors, but you may have a better chance of not getting in trouble with the cops....

My old car was manual windows, thus the 4 tickets.

as far as fines, in michigan it is a fix it ticket. Or you can pay 105 and leave it on. Last time I paid. The 4 times with the old car, I removed, and replaced each time.

being in brighton, i would recommend against tinting your front windows.

i lived there for 20 years, and has been the ONLY city i've gotten pulled over for tints in. Now that cops can give points & fine for window tint at their discretion, i dont see it being worth the trouble.

Yeah I've noticed that the cops in Mi are cracking down a lot more, especially on things like window tints where before at least in most of the cities I'm in hasn't been so bad... (except Livonia and Plymouth)

Did they actually come out and look at your ride? They issued my buddy a ticket for his tints, so he went and paid $20 to have it removed, then went to the police station said he removed his tint on his windows and they just took the ticket and said you're all set.... He didn't even have to actually remove the tint on his windows...

I would rather take it off, just in case. If they decide to go out and look and the tint is there, you're fucked

Yeah, after I finally started getting pulled over for it on my Cavy I was like forget it I'm never getting tints again. They can look good, they can really keep the inside of your ride cooler (that I miss) and they do give you privacy and protect your interior but like everyone else I want my front doors tinted too, and at this point I don't think I'd ever get tint again unless it was factory tint...

I've had tint on most of my rides.

My contour had 35% on front, 5% on the back and rear doors...got flagged for it once, went to the local PD and they signed off without6 me having to remove them.

The exploder, S10, and my cavy all had 5% all the way back...honestly, it just depended on the car. The exploder had a lift and a bunch of aftermarket crap; the cavy was lowered on 18s with intake and exhaust; both got attention....but my s10 was a lil more low-key so I slid by a little better, and my contour was VERY low key so I only got the one (and only because I also had underbodies on at the time).

Now, with my balt, I've got 5% all the way back...and its been that way since Sept '06; right after I got it. I've gotten pulled for it 4 times...

1 in Detroit (I was really pulled over for DWB but I've got all my papers in order and I had just left the DIA so he let me go)...he let me go.

1 in Redford by Wayne County...he let me go because I was meeting Redford PD about a break-in.

1 in Garden City (cop was just bein a d-bag cuz he knows me). Paid the ticket

1 in Livonia while on i-96....had a plan involving a buddy with the same car, same yr, same color, and no tint...but decided to pay.

If ya ask me, 4 tix in a lil over 2 yrs isnt bad for full limo. My eye doc won't write me a script, otherwise I'd use that loophole. If you do 35%, you should be ok. MOST cops just want to feel safe and be able to ID a drive in a hit and run...regardless of what you do, if/when you get pulled over and have tinted windows, before he walks up, have all windows down, dome light on and hands on the wheel...trust me, it sucks having a gun drawn on you because they think you're up to no good.
