08 cobalt ss high mileage questions

ive been searching for a cobalt to buy recently and i stumbled across a 08 cobalt ss with 97000 miles, one owner car, and they are asking 9995 for it. I was wondering if anyone had any kind of input or opinions if this would be worth the money or not if i did buy the car would like to do some work to it aswell just trying to get some honest answers here

Well I have a 2009 with 100000 miles on it... Really what's going to come down to it... is what parts does it have and how did the owner drive it. If it was tuned and such.

well its from a dealer not a private seller but as far as i can tell it looks like the car has not had anything done to it

Do a compression test. Pull the plugs, check them. Scan the car over for cut wires, grounds that were existing, signs of tampering or movement of bolts, marks misaligned, stuff like that.

If they say no to letting you take it home and think on it, walk away. If they do take the car home and look that sucker over on everything. Comp test and all.

looks clean, ask to take it home over night, let your "wife" take it for a ride. Most will let you. If he says no then they might be hiding something or they dont trust you. Then I would not trust them. At the least ask him to let you take it to a mechanic and have it comp tested or do it yourself. Dont go blindly into it. Otherwise that Sucker is CLEAN, nice find, great price if all checks out.

Best of luck with it. That's my favorite factory color too. Hope it'll work out for you.

Ya I'm going to look over it really good if I end up going to look at it but say everything checks out with this many miles do you think it would still be safe to do some work to the car like a decent tune and some bolt ons

I think it is law that if you ask to have it checked out by an outside mechanic they have to let you. Right now I'm at 97,300 and stillgoing strong.

As far as I can tell, it seems like a good deal. Take it for a long test drive, drive in the city, on the highway, see how the can handles pressure in general, that's usually one of the best ways to tell how well a car has been taken care of. Now as C130 already said, it's always a good idea to have compression tests done and to check the plugs and whatnot. Every vehicle I've purchased, including my cobalt, was a 100k plus car, one of them had almost 150k, but they were all excellent vehicles, very mechanically sound and well taken care of.
