Question New to Cobalts, New to Tuning, New to mods :o

Howdy, just in the market for a new car here, was looking at various different makes and models, for a while being obsessed with Hyundai Velosters and Scion Fr-S realistically not affordable though.
So I've dumbed it down.. Camaro's chargers, and Mustangs just weren't my thing so even further we go.

Nissan's 350z hit my plate of interest there for a few months, not a realistic buy though since.. Iowa weather.. And still a bit pricey for what I can truly afford unfortunately.

Been on the looks for a few months now though and have a Cobalt supercharged SS in my fov.

Was hoping for some pointers to see what you might think this is worth and if these performance mods even mean much for the car.

2006 Cobalt SS supercharge 109k miles
5 speed manual, Stage 2 supercharger, EFI Live tune, k&n cold air intake, ZZPreformance header with 3" down pipe and 3" magnaflow exhaust system.

I barely know anything about these parts, looking them up doesn't help much without browsing dozens of forums results to see what kind of gains are expected from these as well. So any knowledge shared is appreciated!

It's a private owner and they're asking 6k for it. Clean title and all. I know stock for this year and miles that might be a little more pricey than it's worth.. but do those mods make the value?

No, mods never add value.

Only if the individual buying it thinks they do. To a bank it probably worth less.

unless it has changed in the last 2 years, efi live is about worth less for the lsj. I have a hard time believing that it would even have the capabilities to tune just a stage 2 lsj. I say this because it did not have access to injector offsets. I think the only fueling table it had was the flow rate modification and maybe the multiplier.

makes me think that it mustve been a gm stage tune or zzp tune that was touched up with efi live. which doesn't make sense either because efi live is more expensive than hptuners

I know of one car tuned with it here. Wouldn't be surprised if the car for sale is the same one here.

I don't mean to down efi live. after rereading my post it seems to come off that way. I know its a great software for the ls motors and diesels, but hptuners offers a lot more access for us. not as much as I wish they would though. the lsj was never a big focus of theirs

My 09 SS Turbo with 110k miles is worth $6k, maybe you could find one for not much more than the 06.

It's big step up in performance and suspension.

I have super rare prototype parts on my car that are technically priceless, but guess what... they add zero value to my car.

it would be really hard for me to buy a modified car and expect it all to be installed and tuned correctly. id rather install parts or tune incorrectly myself and learn from my mistakes rather than fix someone else's.

I'm surprised you say it's worth 6k? Does the turbo devalue a car? I have a buddy that has a cobalt SS and his is still worth about 7 or 8 supposedly. I have no facts to back that up just his word so I could of course be wrong.

I've heard buying a turbo can be shady, also I don't expect to race it much if at all, so I feel like maybe not worth the performance increase at that point?

I am going by Kelly Blue Book only. I live in southwest Missouri. Apparently they just aren't worth crap.

With light mods the 2008-2010 cars are much faster than lightly modded supercharged cars. Already have the better suspension and braking too. So yeah it's for sure worth the little extra money.

I'm not sure what killed our value. Probably being Chevy and being recall death machines. At some point these cars level off in value and don't go down very fast. I think my 09 has hit that window. Worth $6k and i should probably get rid of it soon. Too bad Chevy has nothing in the lineup/price to be fun.

ah yes, the recalls.. I've only read of them so far, but I would assume at this point, just about everyone who owns a cobalt from 05 - 10 would be caught up on the recalls, assuming Chevy actually replaced the parts rather than the car as a whole. Regardless, I'm sure it doesn't help the value of it any.

I didn't do my recalls. Too many people did them and then had issues lol.
Remember when they recalled the recalled parts for the ignition systems. Hahahahaha

My key cylinder broke before the recall came out so I don't want to take it back in. I cant turn it off without good force.

I have only done the power steering recall. Never had any issue with it either though. I was afraid of getting a bad ignition at 1st like some guys did as stated above

I reluctantly did the ignition recall 2 years ago (not that I had any issues), but to my surprise, it is a much better design.

Thankfully, I have a great dealership who place the highest qualified tech on my car, and everything turned out great. Plus two brand new keys.

I'd never purchases a modified car, unless I knew the person and the car.

I would def never purchase a Cobalt SS modified now a days, due to all the bad forums out there providing crap info (ex. Cobaltss gang). Too many kiddies own these cars now, and beat the **** out of them.
