new member here - interested in buying ss/tc
Hello!
I am a father of 3 and I use my car for my work. I am considering a Cobalt SS/TC for my daily driver.
Car History:
2004 Saturn Ion Redline - I owned this car for nearly 10 years when I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and traded it in on a 2013 Mazdaspeed3.
I loved both cars, and really should have kept the Saturn. It needed a new suspension, header and cat but with just over 100k on the clock it drove like a champ.
The Mazda was expensive and in a move to save money, I traded that in on my current car, a 2014 Chevy Cruze Eco.
Now, the Cruze is a great car with outstanding fuel economy and will go to my 14 year old daughter when she gets her license. That won't be for a couple years obviously.
In the meantime, I plan on researching my next car purchase.
My choices so far are:
Ford Focus ST
Ford Fiesta ST
(a distant 3rd) Subaru WRX
and finally, in the interest of saving money from a 2013+ model year car, a 2009 Cobalt SS/TC 4 door or a 2010 Cobalt SS/TC 2 door.
The qualities I need in a car are 1, above all - reliability. It must start and run every day. 2, space for the family - it needs a back seat. 3, for my own sanity - horsepower and handling. It needs to be fun! The Cruze just takes all the pleasure out of driving.
Having 3 kids, 4 doors are important to me, but not entirely essential. With less than 500 4 doors being made, it will be much easier to find a good, low mileage 2 door than 4 door.
Does anyone have any links or good advice on what to look for before buying a ss/tc?
Thanks to all

The TC deff. checks off the fun factor, and unless you eff with it it should prove very reliable, a lot the people I know that have problems with there cars fucked around with them too much.
Plus thanks to resale values being non existent you can get a TC sedan for a damn good price.

I doubt I would modify it any past a stage 1 tune and visual stuff like wheels etc.

Why do the engines fail? I thought the 2.0 was a good engine. The LSJ in my Saturn was damn near bulletproof, even with my stage 2 tune.
Do stock engines fail frequently or is this more a symptom of tuned/ modified engines?
This is why I lost interest in ever owning an rx-8 BTW. Damn things don't last for ****.

You will get mixed answer about reliability, But I am with steve on this keep it relatively stock and it will last< That is my 2 cents tho.
Cheap car, Cheap parts and I consider them reliable.
Everything else will cost you more and bend you over for parts lol, Also take into account the focus is a new car and bugs aren't all fixed yet I bet.
