I have a buddy who has been "talking" about getting a Balt for months. He pays his motor cycle off in February and he said he is going to start looking. If you still have your car, I will hit you up.

Hey guys, does anyone know of a junk yard with a Cobalt SS Coupe.. I want to try a complete interior job this winter and would rather do it on a spare set... I would be looking for the door pannels, all interior trim, headliner, and trunk carpet

You mean your clutch? And you're flooring it in 5th at 70?!? Lost much faith in you, I have.
#3860
I need to chat with you.
Its a good way to see if your clutch is slipping but you don't need to floor it.

I hope you have some money saved up. Don't cheap out on your clutch if you end up replacing it. I have an Exedy Hypersingle and it is a good clutch but it can cause you to stall your car sometimes. If you don't install it yourself your looking at a minimum of $500 + the cost of a clutch.

My 2006 Cobalt LS 2.2 has close to 90K on the clock. All stock except CAI. Daily Driver.
I've noticed a grind and clunking sound in my front suspension. I jacked the car up and took both the front wheels off to check the bushings and ball joints but to my surprise all of them are in great condition. I'm thinking the front shocks are going?
I'm thinking about upgrading the shocks and springs in the next couple months since they might have to be replaced for the next oil change. What do you recommend for the 2.2 LS? I wouldn't mind having a lower stiffer ride.
I also noticed that my exhaust is very rusted from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. What is a good set up on the cobalts 2.2? I'm guessing it's only going to be a matter of months before I hear a hole poke out.
Thanks guys! Posted at BrewCityMuscle.com too!

The funny thing, the grinding noise went away this morning when I drove to the post office. IDK.
The only noise I hear now is a clunking every time i hit a bump in the road.

Control arm bushings looked fine as well as the sway bar links. I didn't even think to check the strut mounts, I'll have to go out and check. No bouncing ether.

I just went out to the garage and jacked up each side. Pulled the wheel and tire right to left and up and down, no wheel bearing play, so good there.
Checked the mounting locations on the tower and at the spindle and nothing loose.
Double checked the CAB's and there is a small gap in between, check picture.
I did find that both shock/ struts are leaking. So that's the problem I guess, the clunking noise. Check picture

Josh, those generally aren't the bushings that will cause noise. The ones you want to check are these.(This picture is of aftermarket spherical replacements but you'll get the idea).
The stock bushings have a sleeve that the bolt runs thru and it tends to separate from the rubber portion causing the clunking noise you're talking about. Really, you will have to pull the conrol arm to check those. You might be able to see the separation without pulling them but I don't remember anymore because its been so long since I did mine.
