i didn't care what the norm was or what the "rule of thumb" is for buying THE RING. i got lucky and Krista emailed me pics of what she wanted.... actually she sent me links for eBay and some other places but they were fake rings. i wanted to get her the real thing, so i found the real version, it was on sale, i jewed them down a bit more. got it for under $2k, score!

find out what she likes and go from there. when are you looking to pop the question?

mother of God, i think i started a domino effect. i proposed in April and since then 5 close friends of ours have gotten engaged.

alot of friends of mine did the same and I just went to ones wedding 2 weeks ago.

I planned on doing this on New Years. after our house is built and done.. I found out she likes radiants, cusion cuts.. solitaire ring is good.

Ive been learning on this website called blue nile.com dont remember the URL but its a really nice diamond website that sells and also can teach you all the important fact about picking the right one for your budget and price range. I dont really have a price range LOL. its from $0 - $15 as of now. BUT I can borrow up $9k from my 401k and pay it back over a 4 year period at 3.5% interest at the most. which is obviously awesome... I used a loan calculator and I determined that if I made it a 3 year loan and lowered my 401k contribution by 4%, I could pull up to $4700 out towards a ring and some other stuff WITHOUT having to pay in. it would be like a $64 a month payment BUT that 4% contribution reduction is worth $66 a paycheck. literally I will see a gain of 2 dollars a paycheck for the next three years assuming everything stays the same and I could buy a $4700 ring without actually making payments... pretty neat. the only thing suffering will be my 401k since I will be missing $4700 that could be making me interest ... the calculator told me I will be missing out on accruing $2,270 by retirement... which is 39 yrs away so I think its a good trade!

of course... im thinking, a ZZP turbo kit wouldnt be a bad deal... and then whatevers left can go towards a ring... I like the sound of that... hmm

IMO if she really loves you...a 99cent ring from Kmart would do just fine. People get all caught up in the size and the price of the ring and forget about the symbolism and the meaning behind it. I guess I may be one of the rare non-superficial types.

or if you really wanted to be jew cheap...send your grandma to Peru and have her bring back a sweet ring for about 1/4 of the price it would be here. Thats what Paolo did.

WIN!

I paid for our wedding bands since obviously Paolo paid for the engagement ring. I think ours were around 600 for both. Kay was running a sweet sale. They have lifetime replacement on stones as long as you get it inspected by them every 6 months.

I picked out my ring, and I felt that he shouldn’t have to take out a loan to buy me a ring. The size really didn't matter to me. I type all day, and I was afraid that anything larger than what I got I would manage to break it. and although I wanted a ring, if it’s not financially possible then I didn’t care. I found the man of my dreams and as long as I got to spend time and be with him I was happy. The ring was just icing on the cake.

Don't get me wrong i love my ring.. and i get distracted by it often. But there is more meaning behind a bunch of stones.

rofl. I got a guy at my work who loves buying Diamonds. He's a Jewish man of course, lol.

He has alot of tips and secrets on how to buy. He said if you want to get a 1.00 carat, buy a 0.93 - 0.97 carat, its a hell of alot cheaper and literally indestignuishable from a 1.00 carat. good idea.

I also learned about W/L with diamonds. The Radiant is traditonally a rectangle with a W/L = 1.40 but I could get a W/L = 1.00 at the same carat for cheaper because its more square shaped.

I dont know about "illuminesence" or "fire", "culet", or "polish", but I know sparkle is pretty much the only thing important to girls which can be determined by the quality of the cut and the color.

Same. I'm glad I have it, but if I didn't I would be just as happy. I know alot of girls who aren't engaged yet at my work who talk about having a carat requirement and what not.
It makes me do this --->
