my new vote..... buy a stock motor for the Cobalt, swap it in, sell everything else, make cobalt DD and build Civic.
it's wasting money because there are certain things that need to be fixed on the Cobalt & Civic instead of making it look good. get the damn things up and running, then worry about adding stuff.

Hey guys/gals, looking at getting a 93 civic ex coupe ... I talked to the guy and here's the situation:
Hey Al,
I'm looking at picking up a 93 civic ex coupe (in the for sale section here on TST) as my winter beater. The guy I talked to said that during the summer it got "hot" once on his trip up to NYC in and out of traffic in the middle of summer. He didn't specifically say that it overheated or anything, he just mentioned that (not sure of what to make of it). He said the car is good in winter time as far as engine temps go.
I'm leaded to believe this is just a thermostat and not the head gasket, but I could be wrong. It's a 93 civic ex 2 door with 105k on it (timing belt changed, water pump, etc.). Here's the thread: http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ad.php?t=88586
I got him down to 1500. What do you think? I was gonna rent a compression test machine to make sure it's not the head gaskets.
Any thoughts?

it doesn't sound like a bad deal tho, civics are like legos, you can put them together anyway you want. so even if it is the head gasket it'll be an easy fix. but the fact that it got hot on a trip to NYC doesn't make me feel good about it.

Yeah, this forum has been dead as of lately
I don't think it's THAT bad of a deal. I was thinking it was the thermostat. An easy way to to remove the plugs and check the compression of each cylinder for the head gasket. If it's just a thermostat, then I'm good about it (it's a $12 part). Then I SHOULD have a good solid car that'll last another 90k

yea like 2-3 weeks ago we had like 4 or 5 new members pop up.... now they've dissapeared. oh well.... i'll send them a PM when i get the next meet setup. i'm looking to just do a BWW in Dover again, last fall's meet went good but now that we have more locals on here, i think it'll be very good.
dude.... it's a 93 civic.... parts are everywhere and very cheap. go for it. only 105k miles... w/ new timing belt & water pump, sounds good to me.

Yeah, he said it's good during the winter and gets "warm" during the summer, the car would be a winter beater anyways, that's why I'm leading to think it's the thermostat.
I think I'm gonna take it anyway, it's only 1500 and it has 105k with MAJOR maintenance done

I need a beater but I dont haz monies to spare til after the wedding. I drove my moms vibe last weekend...although not really a 'beater' its pretty roomy and I enjoyed being about to see out all of the windows lmao
