well this thread is slowly keeping alive... Here is a little update from italy!
last weekend i rented a Fiat 500 diesel a car actually slower then kyles 2.2
(jk kyle) But anywho, whiel i'm in Italy i decided to take a trip up through the country and see top gears so called greatest drving road which is actually a combination of roads.
I also wanted to stop in Modena to see the Pagani factory
So i end up getting to modena late at night so i decide to get a hotel room. the next morning i wake up early to go the pagani factory and alas, it was closed so w/e not much sense of me sticking around, i headed up to davos switzerland taking the back roads.
Now let me just say, no roads in america could ever compare to the roads they have here in italy! once you get into northern italy the roads just become absolutley amazing, and each one puts bear mountain to shame over and over again! And no pot holes anywhere!
But by the time i made it to switzerland it was around midnight and i was tryign to find a place to stay for the night, and i ended up on this mountain pass called ss29 or via dei bernina. It was the start of my understanding to how awsome the roads here were gonna be! it was smooth as a freshly paved highway in nj, and it twisted like an etcha sketch doodle! And at the top of the pass, you got rewarded by seeing the more stars then you could ever imagine! One of the most memorable nights i have ever had in my life!
The next morning i set out from davos to do top gears so called greatest drving road! And now woudl be a good time to mention i realized my camera was missing so And rigth out of davos, the road called, fluelapass strasse (ss28) delivered! it was spectacular and it is hard to put into words how amazing the road was! It was smooth, hadd plenty of twists, multiple hairpins, elevation change and straights. Amazing is the best word to describe it, and the scenery wasn't bad either!
To continue onto the stelvio pass you had to go throught a small town and continue on ss 28 and make a right onto the umbrail pass. Now the umbrail pass is one of the most rediculous things i have ever encountered in my life! It is just tight hairpin after tight hairpin. Until you reach a point to where you find out the road is closed
But being that i won't be coming back anytime soon, i decided to try another route to get there. It would require going through the town of trafoi italy.
Now trafoi is the most beautiful place i have ever seen! A small creek running through a samll town with the tallest alp in a few hundred miles as the backdrop. The road that runs through this town is the same road as the pass itself, but due to a series of about 10 hairpins and a huge snow storm abotu a month before i couldn't make it up in my little fiat So i had to turn around no stelvio for me this trip. But the roads in that area more than made up for it. Still in awe of that region as a whole, it was breath taking.
But i will come back here one day (in the summer) so i can go onto the stelvio pass, and enjoy nothern italy and southern switzerland one more time! Highly reccomended for anyone who loves beautiful scenery and roads that are among the best in the world!!!
