Help with laser speed trap law in NJ.
I was just about to get to work this morning in Somerset NJ. I got off the exit ramp of 287 and my radar picked up a laser for about 3 secs. I have never gotten a laser signal there or anywhere in NJ since Ive owned this detector. I was going under the 287 overpass. The only thing I can think of would be that a cop was chillin on 287 and aiming down. My question is can they just issue you a ticket in the mail if they just get you on laser. Or do they actually have to pull you over. To be honest I dont even think I was speeding. I was doing like 40 cause i had to pass this slow ass truck. Any help with anyone who knows the laws wouold be great.

Here in Ohio when you run a red light and are captured by the camera they will mail you a ticket. No points will be added to your license because they cant prove that it was you driving, but you still need to pay the fee. I can't imagine it being much different.

Yea, thats what my friend was telling me here. He said they would actually have to pull me over to issue a ticket. There definatly was no camera thing cause I was going under an overpass not an intersection. I dont even think they have camera traps here in nj yet.
Also, I was on a town road and any cop on the overpass would have been on a state road. Therefore it wouldnt have been his jerisdiction.

The problem becomes, how will they prove who was driving the car? They cannot issue a speeding ticket without the drivers information. If they didn't pull you over then I wouldn't worry about it. Also to note, taking photos for the purpose of writing speeding tickets is illegal in New Jersey.

Thanks for the input guys. I wouldnt even be worried if I didnt have 8 pts on my license already. Ive gone like almst a year now without a ticket. My yellow SS attracts to much attention, lol. I had to learn that the hard way, cant drive like I used too with my dodge neon.

nothin to be worried about,.... when your radar goes off and detects laser, which happend to me 2wice on the highway,,, it just means that the cop is shooting his Li-dar gun and it throwing a bunch of numbers of how fast the oncoming cars are going.... im not 100% sure if when your radar goes on for laser, it means that the cops gun is locked on ur vehicle but yea nothing to worry about unless they pull u over.......

i tried aruging with a local cop that followed me on a state highway and pulled me over off the exit, he showed me in court that local cops actually do have jurisdiction on state roads.

My dad is a police officer, most Radar detectors that pick up laser say you have just been fucked! LOL
other ones that say that they jam Laser, So so they block the single for 7 seconds to allow you to slow down and then when you get close enough the beam gets through. hopefully you slowed down enough.
like the stalker lidar guns they use here in missouri have the distance up to 4000 feet. and accuracy up to 1ft. the farther away you are the wider the beam, the closer you are the narrow the beam. if a police officer does not pull you over. Two things 1. you werent going fast enough for it to trigger the gun. 2. no more police officers on the shoulder to pull you over. They cant mail you a ticket for speeding from a lidar.
Now on the other hand those traffic light cameras that all states have? that is a game. you get caught going through them you lose! you get the ticket in the mall, you pay it You lose. Now you get the ticket in the mall. put not guilty. never have to pay anything. but if they do call you into court go, but you'll win they cant prove it what you driving.

Jamming laser is easy if you have the Laser Interceptor laser jammer but you have to pay the price.

If a cop gets you on Lidar while you're seeding you'll know it. There's no waiting to see if a ticket shows up in the mail, you'll get a ticket on the spot. At least thats the way it is in Mass anyway. I was nailed doing 92 on rt. 146 when i had my camaro. $270 ticket. Someone already said it but what they do is have one guy on the side of the roa shooting the laser and another one or more up the highway waiting for a radio call.
