Tiburon in Southern CT Friendly Race

Hi everyone.. this is my first post on this site but I'd just like to say I'm a fan of the Cobalt SS. I actually thought about buying one but my Tib is paid off so I kept it.

I'm just interested in seeing how my freshly modded Tib stacks up against a Cobalt SS..

I've got a 2003 Tiburon GT 2.7V6 Supercharged at 4psi, Injen SRI, Injen Exhaust .. Estimated 200-220whp

I'm in the New Haven area so if anyone is interested in meeting up for a friendly pull, PM me! I'd def love to check out a Cobalt SS

Also, tonight at Starbucks in Milford is the weekly Tuesday meetup.. lots of cars there idk if anyone is going.

Welcome to the sight, what year is your Tiburon? Got any pics?

If I was in the area, I would be down, I really like the Tiburon’s (Not the older ones) but the newer style are sweet looking. There is one in my neighborhood that is sweet looking and sounds like some mods have may have been done to it but the guy does not seem real friendly at least he has not acknowledged me. Oh well, I am just the kind of person that loves cars, and run with anyone that wants a little fun.

Seems just about right to me. He's got .7 more liters of displacement and two more cylinders that make up for 8.5lbs less boost he's pushing than a stock SS/SC and making around the same power...

If he were pushing the 12.5/lbs we were pushing stock, then he would be well above what a stock SS/SC puts out...

PhantomTib, what type of supercharger are you running?

I thought they were 170's/180's crank for the V6, which would make 200/210's whp about right...

Okay just to clear a few things up.. I haven't dyno'd.. S/C just went in last Thursday. I just saw a dyno a few minutes ago of a Stage 0 non-intercooled tib with headers put down 220whp.. I'm running Stage 1 intercooled so I should be close to 220whp.. after I do the headers I'll be close to 240whp..

And for the people saying that it was a little weak... I was talking wheel not crank... crank horsepower I'm already in the ballpark of 250.

Pics coming in a few mins!

I live in Newtown and could meet up with you for a pull at some point. Hell, I was going to put my snows on tonight but I guess I could go check out that Starbucks.

PM if you want my cell or something.

I mean compared to N/A.. it threw me back in the seat the first time I got on it.. put a huge smile on my face. I'm auto but 0-60 has improved from about 8 seconds to 6.5 without a proper launch.

I tried a 40mph roll with a turbo 240SX and barely lost because it takes a a second or two to get up to the high RPMs where I really pull hard. I was reeling him in but there was traffic up ahead. If we were to do a 60 roll it would have been alot better. The 240 also brake boosted and was spooled when we went

Also, a turbo civic came up on me and we did a 60 roll and I just walked away. He then dropped 4-5 cars and floored it, and I went when he got to my door and I the S/C just screamed past him. That was the first day I had it and I almost pissed myself with excitement

It's a little dirty because it rained today..

Not sure if you saw my last post but I'm in the Newtown area and can meet up. Just got an intake right now. I think it'll be a very close match.

... hey look... he's cooling with laminovas just like us...

Nice setup... bet you'd get alot of power out of that system after a good tune.

thanks! I've actually got the injectors, fpr, belt, and pulley to go to 8-10psi of boost.. but that's my spring project. Just wanted to pace myself and have some fun modding. Over the winter I'm going to do the headers and swap in some lightweight crank and ud pulleys to put more power to the ground. After the boost is turned up, I'll get a nice tune and be looking at a bit over 300whp

Nicely done.

A friend of mine has an '03 with the 6 spd. He's mainly stock right now but is looking into getting that same supercharger.

His best ET to date is 15.5XX with cat back and short intake pipe (not CAI).

I'm sure you're aware of it, but there are a few of you who may be interested in seeing these vids on YouTube

These cars aren't slow when done right. The only thing is the supercharger is around $4,000 IIRC.

Welcome to the site man. I'd be down for a nice run. I don't have a vid camera though. I live near Glastonbury. Let me know. Nice car.

P.S. I can't make it tonight at 9:30 but we can set something up.

Not at all. With full bolt ons and some FI tibbys can put pout over 300whp. And you can do EVERYTHING to them. Roots SC, centrif SC, turbo...whatever your heart desires.

Welcome tot he site man. I joined new tiburon forums a while ago, I LOVE the new body styles, and the tibby is a car that's great to modify. I want videos of your race with an SC. SC'ed tibbys sound good.
