Assaulted at work
OK, a lttle background first. I am an engineer at the largest hospital in King County, WA. I run and monitor boilers, A/C units, air compressors, medical gasses. I make sure we have power and/or emergency generators are ready to go. I also fix things when staff calls me with problems. I monitor fire alarms and other stuff too, I won't go on any more about what I do. About a year and a half ago, my manager didn't renew a contract with the grounds keepers that took care of our parking lots and emptied trash cans. To save money, he has us Operating Engineers do it. Our contract specifically says that we are not to do janitorial work (unless we are cleaning up after ourselves). Our manager justifies it by calling it "gounds keeping". We are expected to empty trash, pick up trash and cigarette butts. I don't even smoke (quit several weeks ago).
Ok, so last Sunday morning, at the end of my shift I was making my rounds. I was at the Emergency Room entrance emptying the trash can and a guy in a wheelchair wearing a hospital gown asks me for a cigarette. I told him that I didn't smoke and that we have a no smoking campus. I told him there is one smoking area in front of the hospital and he would probably find someone smoking up there. He goes and starts asking other people and was having no luck. He then rolls out in front of a huge lifted truck and asks the driver for a smoke. He got one and lit up. So I roll over to him in the Gator (a John Deere small utility vehicle) and told him he would have to go and smoke in the smoking area. He replied "GO **** YOURSELF!" I was just going to finish up my round and leave it at that. This guy rolls the wheelchair in front of the gator and I slammed on the brakes. He jumps out of the wheelchair and pushed in the passenger side window hitting me in the head and right shoulder with it. All the while he was screaming obsenities and saying that he was just shot and he could smoke wherever the hell he wanted to smoke. He was drawing back like he was going to clock me so I nailed the gas, ran over the wheelchair he left in front of me. I got down the drive about 30 yards and called security and told them what had happened, they were on their way to help me. Our operator somehow was confused and Gator went from golf cart to this guy was swinging a golf club. Six police cars were now on their way. Security was there now trying to talk to this guy. He was saying he didn't recognize me as an employee (I wear a uniform with the hospitals name on it, I have a hospital badge, I was in a vehicle with an amber becon on top that also has our hospital logos on the sides of it). he tried to walk away and got out to the main road. The police started showing up one was running up the hill with a shotgun. Two cars pulled up to him with two more right behind them. Two more were down near the Emergency Room. This guy had four cops drawn on him one with a tazer, one with a pistol, and two with shotguns. This guy that was so tough about ten minutes ago was now bawling like a baby.
I was wondering why he got shot in the first place, but he was probably being a dumb ass like he was with me. Now he was going to jail in an easy access hospital gown. What a shitty day for him! Why are people like this?

I don't think emptying the trash is so bad either. I was in the military too. However when it is in your contract that you don't have to do it, it then sucks. I monitor a lot of things. when I am here, I am the only engineer on duty. A number of things can happen while I am away from the boiler room and it is just not very safe leaving it unmanned for that long. To empty all the trash on campus, it takes one guy about an hour and a half.

^it is pretty comical. I have told several people about it aready and most have started laughing. I have talked to security at the hospital, they said this guy is a gang member. Some asian gang here in Seattle, the one responsible for murdering that club owner and his family. That's kinda scary. They also said this guy thought he was dying when he initially came in with superficial wounds. He was shot at and his car was hit. Some "shrapnel" got him in the side and he was barely even bleeding.

Seems a little over kill for an assault but that is King County. I used to live there, I can believe it. If that dude Cheap shot me like that, I would have pulled that **** down on the ground and slapped the living shat out of his face like a Pimp slapping his Hoe. To bad he wasn't a regular I would have more then willing would have gone down there and gave him a few slugs, use some of my Wushu on the *****. Well At least he didn't pull a gun or knife on you! Glad it was a scare rather then your life bro!

^ I wanted to put him right back in the ER, however we have so many cameras around I was kinda afraid I would get into it and go a little overkill and get in trouble. Besides, monster trucking the gator over the wheelchair was pretty fun.
