Maybe want to upgrade and get a new set of Diamond forged pistons, you would never want to run used pistons, in a "different" block than they were in.

You can run used pistons... but I DEFINITELY would change the rings.

And I've got 3 stock pistons w/ rings. Well, I've got 4... but you don't want the 4th one.
