Holy old thread. Anyway...
When I starting learning about the tuning issues with this car, I stopped putting any money into until flash tuning becomes availble. Presently, I'm waiting for SCTFlash to release their support for the Garrett kit. Until then, no more money.
I have done little cosmetic things. I got Smoothlocks, painted the bowtie and brake calipers. Nothing big. I expect to do a lot more this summer upon successful flash tuning.

you can say that about anything... it's obviously a project car, and something he's putting alot of work into... why mod an evo, why not just buy a z06? why buy a z06, why not just get an F1?
#35
why mod an evo? hmm put 2k in an evo and ur pullin Z06's...2k not 17k(and yeah it's probably not 2k but it's nowhere near that dam much). I think every person should draw a sensible limit.

i love my car... if i had a shitload of money to spend, i would mod the hell out of it too instead of buy another car...

HEY! My thread, no arguing.
First, I haven't spent $17K on my car. Well, not yet. I spent $6K originally on the powertrain build. Then my first engine blew and I had to spend another $5K to fix it. After the turbo, then I'll be over 17. I havne't done any of the electronics work that listed above yet. That stuff is all last after performance.
The car actually has less power then a stock engine. I am running reduced compression pistons on a normally asiprated engine, so less power. However, the car runs perfectly. No CEL on the stock tune. Trans is fine, and there is no reason why it shouldn't be. Everything is great actually.

I'm in lust with the Eagle rods. We use them in our Neon ACR autocross car.
I once had a similar problem in a N/A Alfa Romeo race engine. the valve caused the steel seat to drop. The top of the piston and the combustion chamber looked like they had been attacked by a claw hammer.
The best of luck - show pics as the engine goes together! the worse part will be the N/A break-in period. With the reduced compression, it will be a D-O-G! But oh, how much better it will feel when completed!

there are turbo 2.2's running around. they use piggy back fuel managment. there is a video of one on these forums somewhere. he has his video on myspace being dyno'd and you can hear the blow off valve clearly
here is one of the vids i found of the 2.2 w/ a working turbo
