Hello, i have a base 05 cobalt that has a chatter from the belt tensioner area. its worse when the ac is on. i can see a little movement on the pully when it chatters. question, should I replace the whole tensioner or just the pully? 2nd question, how hard is it to change the belt tensioner and how to change the pully? It looks like its pretty easy to swap the pully... maybe thats the way to go???? anybody done this, I'm sure someone as... thanks....

Sure its not just the belt,an 05 would warrant a belt change!

best bet check the belt first. i drive an sc balt an heard a tick from my tensonior an i took the belt off spun the pulley no tcking. checked the belt an had a huge chunk missing from it. try that

Might be the bearings if it has a wobble to it

can you just swap the pully or do you have to swap the whole tensioner?

Well if its just the pulley u can buy a new pulley. i know my pulley is like 40 bucks not sure if its the same price.


but yes if it is indeed the pulley u can just buy the pulley. I dont know if the base cobalts have hydrolic tensioner' like the sc cobalts do but i know if i had to buy one i would be out 150.

but if u do need one u could go trought Advanced auto parts the carry the pulley and u can order the HT and have it same day u order...
