1600 Quote To Repair Scratch and Dent

Well a while back someone was backing out of a parking spot and scraped their bumper down my passenger door, of course they took off and left no note the scratch/dent is about3 1/2 feet long across the bottom of the door . I went to the dealer and got an estimate today for repair. was quoted at 1633.97. Seems kinda high, but they can't just repair the door they have to replace the whole passenger door skin... it sucks but i want it done right not just bondo'd and thrown together.... what do you guys think?

well on average i think i new skin would cost around $300-350 ....its what like 6 hours labour to install the skin . 2.4 hours paint plus 0.6 ish for clear coat and inners so it should equal around that price give or take a coupl e of dollars.

what does the insurrance company say ?

The insurance company says they can cover it i just pay my deductible. They are looking into seeing if my uninsureed motorist coverage will cover it, to bring my deductible down to 200.

I'm scanning the repair quote now

Here is the quote its in a PDF file

Just get a used door from ebay or the junkyard and have it painted to match. 500-1000 depending on the quality of the paint job. Could probably do it yourself and forgo the insurance bump/record.

Yeah, go to a body/collision shop and get a quote from them.... Dealers almost always usually charge like double the price to fix body damage... They rip you off....

I take a little offense to SS4EVER's comments. As a autobody repairman with 28 years experience in dealer shops (4 in independents), I can tell you they are basically no different than independent shops. The prices are largely dictated by insurance companies, and if a body shop does not conform, they will soon have no work. While there are always ***** shops willing to undercut prices of quality oriented shops, I can assure you that you will get what you pay for.
As to blu3_v1p3r's question, I would find a reputable shop in your area and trust them to repair your car. Don't shop for price as you will pay only your deductible no mater what the final price is anyway. The shop will negotiate the price with the insurance company for you, this is what they do. When using insurance, it is MUCH more important to find a shop you are comfortable with than shop by price.
Thanks for letting me rant and good luck blu3_v1p3r,
Dennis

I manage a collision center and use the exact same estimating software that the place that gave you the quote does and it looks about right.

thanks for the advice... I'm using the dealers body shop. I got the car from RK Chevy, and RK Paint & Body Shop is taking care of it... There are 4 Chevy Dealers within 30 mins of where I live, so if one can't get it right my insurance company already said I can use any of them.

By federal law you have the right to take yor vehicle to any shop. It is illegal for your insurance company to tell you where to go.

That's true however if you get it done at an "authorized" center you likely get a lifetime warranty on the fix (at least the finish work).

Because your insurance costs go up when you submit claims. And some people have 500 and higher deductibles (I have 500).

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I have a short question for kenhebe or any other body repair people. I am wondering how business is where you are. I am in northern Illinois and we are Very slow.

We had a slow spell in the beginning of October, but since then we have picked up considerably. I know that we are booked solid for about the next 3 weeks.
