bad wheel bearing diagnosis?
Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is a good way to tell which wheel bearing is bad. I saw a video of a guy grabbing the wheel at the 12 and 6 oclock and shaking it (while jacked up) and u can see play in the wheel. Also saw another video where the guy jacks up the car and spins the wheel by hand with his other hand on the springs and says u can feel a roughness feeling in the springs on the bad wheel bearing. Any other tricks that can help me determine the correct wheel bearing that is bad? Thanks!

Im thinking of ordering the TIMKEN Part # HA590068 (for non sport suspension) wheel bearing and hub assembly.
Is this a good part? And would i order the sport or non sport suspension part?
Also the raybestos brand is cheaper...anyone have any experience with those? RAYBESTOS Part # 713206 Professional Grade
Thanks for any help!

ZZP sells wheel bearings. That's where I'm planning on buying mine when it comes time.

drive vehicle; you will be able to hear if there is that much play in hub.
If you turn left, you will be loading the right hub more; so if the right hub is bad, it will get louder.
If you turn right, you will be loading the left hub more; so if the left hub is bad, it will get louder.
-this is not 100%, I have been burned by this once at my shop; Occasionally the inner bearing in the hub will make the noise sound like its coming from the other side.
The best way is to raise car on lift, and have someone in the vehicle drive it at 20mph+
Grab a stethoscope and put it on the hub bolts, you will be able to hear the grinding.
Go Timken; Thats what I use at the shop on all customers vehicles(other than the occasional oddball)
Quite often, Bad hub bearings have no play in them, bearings just take a ****

Also i diagnose bearing at work by car jacked up in nuetral and left hand grab two coils any two just coils of spring and use other hand to spin tire as fast as you can then check other side exact same way youll feel noisy bearings in the spring.if in doubt use a buddys car the same way to compare. 99% of the tine though youll be like holy **** thats gritty feeling. And they dont have to be loose to be loud.

So i just drove my car on the service road going about 60ish mph, and swerved left and swerved right (not dangerously of course). When swerving to the right, the noise seems to go away, but swerving left the noise doesnt get any louder that i can notice....therefore im guessing my right wheel bearing is bad??
