Bump in road caused PS/ABS problem

I need some help. I was drive'n home and saw a sign that said "BUMP", so I slowed down. This bump was about tha size of a roadside curb dropoff. As soon as I hit tha bump, I heard 3 bell dings, and 2 messages flashed on tha info panel. "POWER STEERING" and "SERVICE AIRBAG". At that moment, I lost all power steerin make'n every turn difficult.

I was close to a gas station, so I stopped and checked under tha car. No liquid anywhere or anything unplugged. I started tha car back up with both messages, now tha AIRBAG message stays on, and I can't even see my Temp or Milage or anything. Any idea's that I can try? It's Saturday even'n about 7pm. I was on my back from take'n my mother out for her birthday and she lives 1hr south and I need to get her back home tonight. Tha airbags should be turned off now, so they shouldn't deploy while I'm drive'n.

Gieco said they would have someone come out and tow tha balt to a dealership. I'm covered up to 21miles from my place. But thats on Monday morn'n. Help pls.

Never had this problem with mine. And there has been times when i didn't see the dip or bump in the road, and after i hit it thought i ripped my subframe off the car. But even after that i had none of the problems your talking about. I'm not so sure about the power steering, but as far as the air bag light....if you hit this bump hard enough, maybe you one of the sensors went bad interanlly. All it is, is an inersha switch so i don't know what could go wrong exactly. But atleast you got some feedback.

our cars have electronic power steering, which has a sensor in the steering colum along with the airbag. Man it almost sounds like something came loose in your colum...when you did hit, what it a hard BANG or did you get slowed down enough? If your still under warranty, take it to the stealership, sounds like something either came loose or fried. I know there was a recall on some of the steering coloms for our cars b/c of wiring issues. Keep us posted.

There are no warning indicator lights on, only that message across tha info display.

I slowed down a great bit because my bodykit sideskirts are low, with Eibach springs, so I'm always careful on any dips/bumps. But it did still hit pretty hard.....hard enough to make me say "Oh ****!" when I hit it.
I'm about to have tha car towed to tha dealership shortly. My horn and turn signals still work, but no wipers or windshield spray functions. I have tha car tuned thru Trifecta, and tha dealership will find this out after then run their code scan. I would just wait til I got it back to stock-tune, but it's supposed to rain all week and I can't drive in tha rain to/from work. If there are any major expenses included that are "out-of-pocket", then I will be takin tha State of DE to court for this. Because a gap in tha road that major could cause some serious injury and should not be left opened to tha public to travel thru.

Ok, everything is fixed now. And when someone says "Stealer-ship" from a Dealership, they are right. It seems that I blew an Ignition Fuse when I hit tha bump which controls Power Steering, Airbags, and Wipers. Tha total bill was $92.57 from Townsend Bros Chevy dealership. Tha cost of just tha fuse was $2.57. $90 just to swap out fuses. WTF!

I had no choice but to get a rental car from them cause tha guy said he didn't know when he could get to look at my car. Tha only 2 cars they had was Cobalt LS ($25/day) and Impala LT ($30/day). I got tha Impala cause tha LS looked crappy lol. I had 2 coupons from when I first bought my car. 1st was for $25 off rental car per day, and they didn't charge me tha other $5. 2nd was for $10 off service up to $100. I'm not take'n this to court, it would be just a waste of time/money for such a low bill tho.

Well, I hope this will help others and save them that extra cash. I dunno why I didn't just check tha fuses to begin with.

$92 bucks to figure out an electrical issue is a great deal! seriously, that's what? 1 hour labor? you guys don't understand how some problems can take a LONG time to diagnose properly. even if the tech got super lucky and found it in 5 minutes, chalk up the charge to paying for his expertise.

what if it really took him 3 hours? he only gets paid for one. how would you feel if they had charged you $300 to replace a fuse?

glad you got it fixed. hopefully whatever caused the fuse to blow doesn't come back again.

my question is, what got crossed to pop that fuse in the first place, cause that's a pretty hardy fuse(as far as fuses go), I'm wondering if there isn't something that is bear or needs a protective cover that doesn't have it.

And yes, you were VERY lucky, on a s-10 I had, cost me 400(new hub assembly+labour, cause I was away from home in the middle of butt frig nowhere) bucks to figure out that my abs sensor wasn't bad, but just had a hair line crack and got moisture in it.
