cant fill my tank

I havent started a thread before but Im having my first problem with my 2.4. I just got off work and headed over to the gas station, started to fill from empty, and after about 2 seconds of pumping, it cut off like it would if your tank was full, so I kept pumping and it still cut off over and over till I got at least $10 in it, so just wondering if any one else has had this happen

Did you try more than one pump? I've experienced that out here, and it was when the pumps were out of gas. There's a good chance nothing is wrong with your car, but rather the pump.

Yeah that happens to me a lot too. I usually just reposition the nozzle untill i find an angle at which it wont trigger the auto shut off and let'er go.

I have the same problem or should say that I had the same problem, then the little metal splash flap in the fill tube disapeared into the depths of my gas tank.

I've had the same problem at Petro Canada with my 2.2 Balt.

The solution: Lift up the nozzle.

It kinda pissed me off too i got it to 5 bucks (when i was supposed to fill it to 40), and than i just paid 5 bucks and drove to the next gas station and than filled it. Never happened to me at shell, esso or anywhere else... Just petro-canada

It never happened to me at sunoco though,

Yeah, probably just a pump problem. I have had the same problem with various different cars from time to time. I just hate taking 5 minutes to put gas in or having to move to another pump.

Its the gas pump, not your tank. Happens over here a lot, and like stated above it happens when the pumps are running low/empty.
