im having trouble getting my car into reverse. I can only do it about once out of about 50 tries when the car is rolling slowly. I had the transmission rebuilt about 6 months ago and I am curious if they screwed something up. I don't think its a clutch issue because every other gear works fine and acts normal.

I began having this issue not long after reinstalling the transmission, I would have to put it in 4th, go back to neutral, let the clutch out, reapply the clutch and put it in reverse. it kept getting progressively worse to where I cannot put the car in reverse at all. any info would be greatly appreciated

 

Try adjusting the shift cables.

 

forgot to mention, I did try to adjust the shift cables. its not like the shifter is not going into a spot that it used to, its more like its physically locked out internally within the transmission. when the car is rolling slowly, I can sometimes put it in reverse.

I haven't studied much into taking a transmission apart, and am not sure of all the work the guys did when they rebuilt mine, but it seems strange to me that they would even mess with the reverse gear at all to me. as far as I know, all they did was replace all the bearings when they rebuilt it

would it be easy to get to the reverse gear and see whats going on, or is it deep within the trans?
