CEL just came on

Well I was just about to hop into the car to go get my check and the cel came on. I got in the car started it and let it idle for probably 2 mins while I went throught my cds. I had the ebrake on and when I put it into reverse something popped up real quick, too fast for me to see, and then went back to my coolant temp. Then the cel popped on...? Any idea what this could be? All I did was put it into reverse..Thanks

You can go to Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts to have the code read for free. Or if you have OnStar, push the little blue button and tell them your light came on.

P0300 is the code. Cylinder Misfire. That was the only code that popped up. The GM tech said that it was a basic misfire code. Wierd thing is, is that the thing said that the misfire happened 806 miles ago...this happened today, lol. What was also interesting is that it said that the the first time it happened was at 2216 miles (im at 17xxx)...It passed the same code like 200 and something times but it failed the code 10 times. What could cause this? And have any clue why it would do it now and not 806 miles ago on the last misfire? Lastly, what can I do to not do this again, time for NGK's?

Check your spark plugs, that is where I'd begin.

Even if the CEL is off, you should still be able to retrieve the code. Buy yourself a portable diagnostic tool so that when it goes on you can catch it right away. You can get one for $50 or less; its a pretty good investment especially for you 2.0 guys. All we 2.2 guys usually see is the P0171 lol (I see P0420 as well because I have a high flow cat)

Look for worn electrodes/tips. There is a picture floating around somewhere on here showing bad plugs.

Buy new NGK's, gap them properly and i'm sure your code will go away.
