changed the steering gear(motor and gear boxe under de steering wheel)

i juste change today the hole part...my issue(annoying clunking sound) was due to a play in the input shaft...but now one problem....on the defective part it was a MARK to show me where i can reinstall my steering colomn(centered mark)..but on the new part there no MARK...so after the installation..my wheels are not perfectly centered when my steering wheel is in the center....

should just recentered it via removing the intermediate steering shaft or sir coil recenter procedure????

really dont want to be in trouble again!!..

Why not try to match up a new mark in the same spot as the old, can you post pics too, Im pretty sure I know what your talking about, I just want to see how a damaged one looks like.

This clunking sound, did it happen only at low speeds/little bumps? and where did it sound like it was coming from? I suspect I have the same issue.

the sound come from under the steering wheel and only on low speeds/little bumps as you said and dissapear when i turn the steering wheel..i thought it was the intermediate steering shaft,,changed it and nothing...noise was still coming from under..so...with a lot of i decided to remove all the column and look closer...anyway all the other part that could be my issue was changed,,in last 2 weeks(link/a-arm bushing/strut) so after removing the hole column i just lock the output shaft from the gear box and trying to move the steering wheel...

thats how i find this annoying cluncking sound....

dont know if the little 12volt motor(on the part)or the gearbox(shaft play) was the issue but now everything is quiet under my steering wheel..

and for the pic i will post some ....of the deffective unit...

and for the mark...not bad idea..i will look closer today

pretty hard to show the problem with a single pic...so if you can...just disconnect the intermetiate steering shaft from the gear box and after that.. lock the output shaft with a pipe wrench and move or shake your steering wheel ..
