Check Charge System Problem
Hello, I am new to the forums here and looking for some help with my Cobalt.
Having a code reader brought over today, fyi.
I had my transmission and clutch changed by some horrible backyard mechanic that took over a month to do the job, but got the car back with a different issue now. It initially wouldn't go more than 100 meters after being boosted. The anti-theft system would come on and turn the car off and drain the battery back down to nothing, or so I thought. I went and purchased a new battery so I could transport the car home. As driving with the new battery, the anti-theft system problem went away, as I thought it would with disconnecting the power for 20 minutes. But now it has a charging issue. I drove for about half an hour to get home. And along the way the on dash computer messages showed "Check Chrg Syst" and then "Battery Saver On". By the time I was about a minute away from home, all of the dash lights turned off and the steering went arm strong, and I was able to make it into my drive way. So I'm assuming that for some reason the alternator is having a problem charging the battery. I've checked that the belt is tight on the alternator and it is.
Basically I am just looking for any advice as to how I can pursue fixing this problem on my own. And I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue.
P.S, I understand that I should not have brought my car to some useless mechanic to have it worked on, please don't point out how stupid it was. ^^

You could check that the mechanic put the grounds back on the transmission. This is off my 06 supercharged (you didnt say what car you had, but they might be the same) The first pic is the main ground( black wire W/ stud), mine was taped to the hot wire from the fuse box to starter, and the second pic are 2 other grounds that slip over the stud in the first pic, they are apart of the wiring harness.
Main Ground
2 smaller grounds in wiring harness
