Check Engine light on 3 times in less than a week!
okay i have had my cobalt in for a lot of things.. but recently the check engine light keeps coming on. they say the fuel trim system is lean, or at least that is the code that keeps coming up. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what did the dealer do to fix it? this is getting just ridiculous.. it's been in the shop too many times.

Wish I could help ya, all I can say is it happened to me once. And that was when I was running the stereo system on just the battery for about 1/2hr fixing up my neon and stuff. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with it, but it IS the only time it ever came on for me. At least you know it's not from "not turning the gas cap three time" as it would have indicated that on the DIC. I personally think you have a faulty sensor. My air bag light used to always come on in my Acura, until they changed the sensor... don't think I helped you much, but...try and have a good day I know how frustrating it can be...

It could just be the air filter acting up....a few people on here have had the lean code pop up for apparently no reason as well. The only thing you can really do is look at the filter, PITA, and make sure all the ridges are equally spaced. As funny as this sounds it is probably the only thing wrong, the air system on this car is really touchy. The code really won't hurt things its just annoying. A few people have been running with it for months cause of there cold air intakes.

I believe that have a reflash for the lean problem. Contact your local dealer and set up an appointment. If they want to keep your car overnight demand a rental. I have been having idleing issues.. It seems to be getting worse the more I ignore it. No codes thought.

Yeah, I took mine in for the same problem and they said it was the ridges on the AF not being evenly spaced. Go figure. They mentioned to bring it back if the CEL came on again and they would post it on some GM maintenance bulletin to see if other dealerships had the same problems...

Yeah. It's definately not the gas cap. I have an appointment for it today, and they are replacing the air filter and the air filter snorkel. They told me that GM had a bulletin about the air filter that for some reason if you rotate it 180 degrees that it seems to work better. I have no idea why, and I don't think they do either, but that's just what they said. I also told them about how the breaks are really loud and they said that they were going to check those out too. Hopefully this takes care of the issue. I'll let you know what happens!

okay, well i got my car back yesterday, and they tell me that it was the MAF sensor. they replaced it, and the air filter and the air filter snorkel. hopefully that's all that was wrong with it this time.

I had this exact same problem with the check engine light coming on and the same code of P0171 and the dealer also replaced my MAF and the problem hasn't come back. It's only been 2 days but hopefully I won't see it again. My car only had 400 miles on it when this happened.

my 05 had the same prblm. The dealer blamed me the first time said i was hittin the rev. limiter when out of gear.(ya i like to beat the **** out of my own car). I laughed in their face and took it back. drove normal for a few days and the CEL still came up decided to bring it back and suddenly GM had a recall on the filter. They cahanged it to a high-flow and i havent had any prblms since.

I love when they try to blame you first.
The sad part is they get away with it sometimes when people are oblivious.
My sunroof is not working right.. they'll probably tell me it was my intake's fault.
