Clutch Problem

Ok so i have a 2007 SS/SC with 43,000 miles. I currently have a stock clutch with stock components. My mods are AEM CAI and ingalls ETD.

Now here is the problem i can floor the car in 1st and shift to 2nd, everything is fine. when i floor it in 2nd and shift to 3rd thats when the clutch pedal feels like it went limp and the clutch grabs like a stage three. when i floor it from 3rd and go to shift into 4th, the clutch pedal is still limp and the clutch wont release for me to shift to 4th. The same happens with 5th. however if i pump the clutch pedal once or twice then it all goes back to perfect working condition. Does anyone know what is causing this and how i can fix it ( i know i need an aftermarket clutch, i just cant afford one right now)?

why would you need an aftermarket one? there are people with a lot more power then you doing fine on the stock clutch. but back to your question. low fluid or air in the fluid? not sure just a guess. someone else probably knows more.

Thats what i was thinking is i just needed to bleed the lines, but i wanna make sure before i do a bunch of work and the problem still is not fixed. And i made the comment about the aftermarket clutch because i get told that all the time that thats the problem. personally other then this i have not had a problem with the clutch. thanks for the advice though.

yeah sorry i cant help more. the first time i read it all i thought was brakes. because when you get air in your brake fluid that is exactly what happens.

Yeah, either air in the line or the slave is going out. Not sure how to bleed the clutch as I have never looked to see. As far as needing a clutch, you don't need a new clutch unless the clutch is actually going out. I am still on the stock clutch and sitting at 61K miles.

I ran with my mods on the stocker until 76K miles. It was starting to fade a little but nothing too terribly bad.

If you do upgrade I'd recommend SPEC Stage 2+ with the lightweight flywheel. Great combination.

i was looking at the spec stage 2+ either that or the clutchmaster stage 3. To everyone that has responded, thanks i appreciate all the advice and opinions. im going to bleed the clutch on sunday( buddy of mine said he knows how) ill post if problem solved when the job is done

There is a line that leads out on the top of the transmission. There is a bleeder screw right on top of the tranny on that line. I can't remember the wrench size but its really small. Have someone pump it up and hold the clutch pedal down while some opens it and closes it. Keep doing it until no air is expelled. If that doesn't work you'll have to buy a vacuum bleeder.

You should first check to see if you're leaking any Dot fluid and check the reservoir.

i checked the reservoir and it was still full, i have a vacuum bleeder that i just bought today. ill try the tranny method first, then ill try the vacuum bleeder. where do i use the vacuum bleeder at, the reservoir or the bleeder line?

I got the clutchmaster stg 3... and the stupid POS wouldnt fit in my car. Pressure plate was double the thickness of the stock and nothing would bolt down. By the time we figured this out I had a car show the next day and it was 2pm, so I just got a Sachs clutch from a local WorldPac parts store and never looked back! I would advise against it bc of the fitment issues, and then the place that sold it to me *ahem* were huge ******** about it when I returned it.

Oh! thanks did not know that. I have heard that the exedy hyper single really sucks to. I heard the slave cylinders constantly go out.

Yah i had an aftermarket slave go out on me too. I stuck with one from the dealer. It SUCKS being 3 hours away from home and pouring clutch fluid from your bell housing! No matter what clutch you put in, I would advise against the slave that comes with your kit.

ok so i just got done bleeding the clutch, and that was the problem. It works perfectly now. thanks everyone for your help.

Can you write a how to bleed the clutch? I think I have the same problem.
