Cobalt decided it only wants to use 3rd and 4th gear.
First off, Hello! I finally made an account after lurking for a long time.
I have a frustrating issue with my manual 2006 cobalt ls, Reverse stopped working today. If i go into the shifting spot for R i move forward in 4th is what is feel like. I can also freely move the shifter in 4th left and right where 2nd and R should be. AAANNNDDD If i put it in 1st/3rd//5th It acts like it is in 3rd gear and I can freely move between gear locations while still maintaining what feels like 3rd.
My mechanical knowledge is well below the bell curve but I am trying to fix that. Please tell me this isn't the transmission going out and that it's something uneducated me can fix.

Pull the shifter boot up and look at the 2 cables that should be connected to the shifter. We also need to know if you have a LSJ, LNF, L61, LE5, LAP. I'm guessing one of the cables is loose

http://imgur.com/a/18Iv0 I uploaded pics of the cables with the shifter in first, neutral, and R respectively.its an L61. The right cable could be moved quite a bit when "in gear" where as the left was pretty solid and could not be turned/manipulated really
