Cobalt does not shut off
ok, this just started happening 2 days ago. Its a 2007 SS. After driving for about 30 minutes, I turn the key off, pull it out and the engine is still running.. it runs for about 3-4 seconds, then turns off. What the heck could possibly cause this? a relay?
Thanks a ton in advance...

Was it running normal or kinda sputtering? I know if you use low octane gas in something that requires higher octane it will keep sputtering after you turn it off. That is called "dieseling". If it is sputtering and not just running normal, I would say you are using too low of octane.

I actually been putting 89 in it. However, I just filled it up with 91 (highest they had)
Its not sputtering, sounds as if its normal. Today when I pulled into work, it kept running so i punched the gas, it revved up, then revved down, then shut off.

If it revs up after you pull out the key, thats not what I was talking about. Thats weird, I wouldnt know what it could be. I mean, your ignition has to still have power going to the coil packs or whatever these balts have to keep it firing, so somehow your ignition is staying on.

I'm no expert man, so I really dont know. Maybe you could call a gm service center and see if maybe they do it for a reason. Thats pretty strange though because it only runs a few seconds and then quits like there is a delay in the ignition.

My 1st 06 SS/SC I had did similar, I'd turn it off and it would take a few seconds for the car to actually turn off completely, but slowly dying for those few seconds. My now 2nd 06 SS/SC does it every once in a while but not as often as my red one did. Think it's normal just don't let the clutch out until its completely off obviously.

If the engine was cold I would say it is residual fuel in the manifold and the computer is waiting to see zero rpm's before it commands a complete ignition shut off. But you say 30 minutes of driving so the normal extra fueling for a cold start should be long gone. Is the check engine light coming on? If so what codes?

I think I know the issue.. I think when installing an amp, my cap was not fully discharged. It arced and a switch i put in the car to totally disable the sub amp (for when I got the kids) shorted. Not sure how it would affect what I am seeing but.. when the switch is off (still lit mind you) it doesnt do this but when its toggled on it does.
