i have a 2006 ls standard tranny. it has been in the electrical shop for almost a week for
engine dying problem. the guy said he believes the ecm is bad. he told me that any ecm from 06 2.2 ecotec would work without reprogramming. he said an auto tranny ecm can be used in a srandard, but standard can not be used in an auto.(without reprogramming)
so is it true i can just stick in another ecm to check it?

It needs to be reprogrammed or the security system wont let the vehicle start.

 

i dont mine has security system. ive also noticed even though the key is chipped i believe. a key without chip will start the car.

 

also, i will probably be using one from junkyard. same year model.

It won't work. You'll need to get it programmed using tech 2 or equivalent.

 

They all have chipped keys

 

I dont think the part that reconizes the chip in the key is working. I can cut a
Regular walmart key it cranks fine.
