Cooling Fans And CEL...
so a few days ago i drove home from a friends house, and when i got back to mine i noticed the check engine light was on. So, i just sat there looking at it, like i was waiting on it to go off...but no, it just sat there and shined its pretty orange hue back at me. so, i turn off the car, and hoping that upon restarting it the light will be off, i noticed that the cooling fans never shut off. so i turned the car back off and took the key out. *fans still running* so i stand there, and about 20-30 secs later they shut off. so i go inside, and think nothing of it. I come out to leave about 6 hours later, and as soon as i turn the key i hear the fans start up again...oh, and the CEL is still on. so i start the car, then shut it off and once again, the fans continue to run...then shut off about 20-30sec later. has anyone else had a similar problem? Anyone have any ideas? Its going to the dealer tomorrow for sure, but just wondering if this is a new problem.

Just got my car back from the dealer...turns out it was the relay not working and only the number 2 fan was running and no response from number 1. the replaced the relay, tested it, cleared the CEL and all is good...so i came home and installed my AEM intake...Ahhhhhhhhh sweetness

...ok...now im officially pissed so after putting my intake on, i go pick up my buddy and fuel up, and we go cruising. we go and meet up with a couple friends up in town and while we are sitting in the Walmart parking lot, i noticed the fans were running. So, i turned off the key and removed it, and sure enough they stayed running. i put the key in and turn it and the CEL comes on and STAYS ON...AGAIN... I just got this thing back a few hours ago, and now it's doing the same effing thing again! I got out and checked the fans, and sure enough only the #2 fan is running all the time and the #1 is off. WTF man...i guess they'll see me again first thing monday morning...

The lowest I've seen ours run is 180 or so on the highway in winter. and i've seen it run as high as 223, then the fan kicks on and it drops like a rock down to 190-195 or so.
But because we always run it with the A/C on, it usually stays around 190-200 even in heavy stop and go traffic (because the fans are always on when the A/C is on.)
Personally I think the tolerances are too wide. I really don't think it should be going over 210 at all.

I agree with you that the operating range seems way too large. How would it hurt having the fans come on at a little lower temp? I personally don't like seeing my temp get above 100C/212F.

If you take the relay out, or at least write the numbers down from the top of them (assuming there are numbers on the top) I can usually get them from autozone. If I don't have access to the numbers on top to cross, then our system doesn't like to know what relay you actually need. It works sometimes though.
