damn evap system!
this damn emissions thing is pissing me off. heres my story:
so i got a check gas cap indicator about a month ago, didnt think much of it. then about 3 weeks ago when i filled up for gas the car didnt want to start so after 3 turns i finally got it going. then a few days ago i was doing a pull in second and after letting off the rpms dropped down to 200 rpm and the engine just died. this time it didnt want to even start on the third turn, it took prob 8 turns and some finnagling with the gas pedal to get it going, quite embarassing on the side of the road.
now heres a new one. everytime i go into boost, the gauge pegs all the way out at like 40 psi even though i know its not boosting that high. then when i let off the engine goes all the way down to 400 rpm almost dying and keeps bouncing back and forth just to stay alive. if i do a hard pull, the engine will probably die and i have the luck of trying to start it again.
im thinking its the vent valve near the actual fuel tank because when i unplugged the vacuum line and plugged the solenoid with a vacuum cap it didnt help my issue AT ALL. even made it worse.
so, is the boost issue also contributed the evap system? im taking it in to the dealership tomorrow to have both the purge solenoid and vent valve replaced and hopefully that will solve my problem. even though my engine is modded they should still fix any evap problems that have nothing to do with the mods, right?

Wow, that is quite a story...does sound like some sort of vacuum leak brought on by the boost. I have read about making sure your intake is tightened, but not sure if that applies here.
As for mods, here's my recent story to show you what the dealer might do to you. Every winter my car will post on and off either rich or lean codes and usually goes away when it gets warm. I'm sure part of this is due to the Ingen CAI air filter (K&N cotton weave oiled style) getting wet from snow and water splash and I have to clean it and dry it before reinstallation (you'd be surprised that it hasn't rained or snowed recently but the cleaner was still wet 3 weeks after the last "melting"). So I take it in and they take me up to a certain point and tell me, we can't investigate any more until you remove the CAI. Well, this year I noticed a little surging and the light staying on more that it usually does. So I take off the CAI and put on the stock stuff with a new STP air cleaner...f***er surges immensely when accelerating AND it pops codes. Then the dealer reprograms the 'puter and cleans the valve body and swears they never feel the surge I do...so I keep it for another week (it is surging less, but still doing it), pops a code again and surging gets worse. I take it back and they keep it for another 3 days (seems like every time I take it there it is 3 days), and tell me they are going to replace the the new air cleaner with the official GM air filter and let me drive on that, then they can continue diagnosis...I get that back yesterday (Friday at 5 pm) and so far so good, surging is gone, but I'm betting in less than a week I'll pop a code again.

just got back from the dealership. they wont believe me that its anything to do with the evap system (said he will check it out anyway). he said he thinks its in the tune that was put on but it doesnt make sense because it was fine for the first month the tune was on. if they dont fix it i think im just going to bite the bullet and but each piece at a time til it is fixed. term2, please chime in!

CAN ANYBODY HELP ME!
why does the car just shut off when i go into boost? could this also be part of the evap system? after dying its hard to start again just like after filling up with gas. then once it does start it idles bad for a while. even under normal driving, there are random afrs while idling but everything goes back to normal under load. what the hell is the problem?
