diagnostics came back, need your help!
well the diagnostics came back for my car and it reads as so:
*replace O2 sensor (bank 1 sensor1)
*coolant getting stuck to sensor
*replace thermostat
*change coolant
shop wants $300 for all that and labor so...**** that! im gonna do it myself. i know the O2 sensor is like $70 but how do i replace it? also how much is the thermostat, how do i replace it, and where can i get it and one more thing, which coolant do you recommend i get and how much is it?
thanx
is there a how to: to any of these issues?

I hear the theromostatd on these is a bitch to change not sure where it's at.
The O2 Sensor is on your exhaust manifold. I think its best to get to it from underneath, YOu'll need an open end wrench or a special cut open deepwell socket for an O2 sensor for the wires. Simply twist out the old one, disconect it, and slap a new one in.
Changeing your coolant and Thermstadt can go together
Just drain allthe coolant out, swap out the thermo when
your coolant is empty and fill it back up.

I have never done it, so not for sure. I think you take the metal coolant line and housing off, maybe a couple of bolts, then you can get to the thermostat. I think the biggest problem is getting to the bolts because the exhaust manifold is right there. There a couple of guys who have changed their thermostats and should be able to give you a better how-to. You might try posting a new thread called "Need help swapping my thermostat" and see if one of them can help you out.

Let me give you some advice based on the input thus far. Take it back to the shop and let them do it, after all if THEY screw it up it's on them, if you screw it up (and there are bolts that go into aluminum, plastic housing.
I'm a tech, I can tell you 7/10 times a customer comes in for a diagnosis and the repair isn't cookie cutter easy, if they leave after the diag, they always bring it back with a broke part or it comes back on a wrecker, also broke, only now the labor includes R&R plus the repair of broken studs, and additional parts for missing bolts, nuts, repairing broken wires or the dreaded, it didn't run rough and have a check engine light before but now it does, please help!
If all else fails bribe a knowledgeable friend with the appropriate brew to at least supervise your attempt.

On almost any other car, I'd say do your own damn thermostat but these Ecotecs are not easy..... as for the O2, those are not easy without the proper tools because of the rust buildup down there.
Just take it to the shop that diagnosed it
