Engine change

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this, my daughters 2007 cobalt has a blown engine. I have located a 2009 engine for $300. I know there will be issues on putting the newer engine in the 2007, where can I find the specifics about making this change?
Thanks

Best thing to do would be to use the 07 head on the 09 engine. Otherwise youre going to be ***** deep in wiring diagrams and annoying problems, trust me. Either that or find an 07-08 engine you can use, they are pretty cheap at junk yards.

That's what I was worried about, I know nothing anymore swaps out easily. I'm going to pull the head on the 2007 tomorrow to determine what happened. From what I have heard no compression on any cylinder usually means a timing problem that destroys the head. I haven't looked at used heads yet but will see if I can find a 2007 head.

Are their any advantages to the 2009 engine? Without the 2009 head will it be the same as the 2007?
Thanks,
Gary

Assuming they are both 2.2L cars right?

If it jumped timing, yes it probably bent valves.

There are no real advantages to the newer engine. It has VVT but unless you're gonna swap all the harnesses and compatible modules you can't run the 09 engine computer in an 07 car. Although if you were gonna switch the head out, you could just have the damage repaired on the existing engine and install a new timing set and be done.

best to find the correct engine, 07-08 2.2l shouldnt be a hard one to find.

for what its worth, my shop has a 2011 hhr we bought from salvage with a seized engine. we had a complete 08 parts car as well. i dropped the entire engine/trans/wiring harness/ecm/tcm and suspension from the 2008 and stuffed it into the 2011, and the only thing i had to do to get it running was a security relearn.

Starting to look for an engine today that matches what I have, your advice is the best way to go. I will remove the head to make sure what happened in case I can fix what happened. Thanks for taking the time to give me good advice.
