They are both as reliable as one another, I think you both need to calm down.
Slowbalt would have pissed you off if he wanted to by now brid, trust me.
Slowbalt, I have paid for my cars since I have been driving, and think that this is not his fault...and a '73 is the wrong year... pollution laws FTL.
Slow, if it was ANYTHING other than the head of the car...that has had work done by the dealer once, I would be saying the same thing as you.
Sounds to me that they didn't put it back together right to me.
There is no reason 3/4 pistons compression would be down and a stuck valve.

file a claim with the BBB.

Haz l33t wheelz.
just trollin... brid, sucks for you man, i hope it all works out. def. sounds like the tech at the dealer did something wrong, especially after the mechanic pulled the head off and one of the cylinders was missing spring/retainer/rocker arm for that valve. something is not right. springs retainers and rocker arms do not just disappear.

Most people here are e-tough and whine like 6th grade school girls when they slap a 2.7 on there with zero cooling mods, power shift every time, and take corners as fast as they can and wonder why they have no #4, a broken tranny, and worn out tires.
Then they proceed to call the car junk...but think it is the fastest thing in the world because they drive it

Case and point
I would be wearing someone like a boot.

UPDATE:
mechanic took head off today, and gave me the news..
bad news:
#1 and #4 had coolant in the cylinders, all had oil.
somehow, he broke all the bolts off the exhaust manifold...
#4 had a stuck intake valve, it was slightly bent, and it did nick the #4 piston more than once...
hydraulic chain tensioner had a huge crack in it.
head might be warped
good news:
cylinders are smooth as a baby's butt
pictures:
chain tensioner:
#4 intake valve:
#4 piston: (there's 3 or 4 arced dents where it smacked the valve)
questions:
are new pistons needed?
should i replace the head?
all new valves? or just the 1 bent valve?
is the lifter that was on the other side of the bent valve bad (since it had no rocker arm for quite some time)?

My computer just now displayed your pic. YES you need pistons to. If your not going all out for performance look into a junk yard engine. If it were my engine I would buy Diamond pistons and a mild head head. This is were a credit card comes in handy lol.

if anyone is following along, arbitration hearing will be around july 14-16, we'll see if me and GM can come to an agreement.
head is being rebuilt by bates engineering, i am also thinking about having them rebuild my block as well.
we'll see.

ok i didnt know anyone was following, anyways, head is being rebuilt by bates engineering, he's going to be putting in his dual spring valve springs, which dont float til 8500 rpms (he advised me that the factory valve springs do float at 6100-6200 rpms), im also thinking about doing the balance shaft delete kit (i love those vibs).
engine came out from the top today, was a bitch to get out. forgot to remove the axles, so the driver's side axle popped out while i was hoisting the engine up, all in all, all the tranny mounts had to be removed, and we propped the tranny on a jack stand, hoisted the engine up, and when the flywheel finally came out of that bellhousing, the tranny fell a pretty long way to the jackstand waiting for it on the floor. clutch needs to be replaced, header needs to be replaced because the bolts were broken off during removal, downpipe needs to be replaced because of the clogged catalytic converter, might need a new boot, some axle grease, might of actually bent the shaft sticking out of the tranny, but hey, the bitch is out. i also purchased a brand new set of ARP head studs, and a Cometic head gasket.
no more warranty, and i plan to have this car for a while, so the idea here is to keep the same power level, but to build it to handle twice the amount of "abuse" its going to be put through.
