Question fan constant on

Im not sure if this is a problem or not but today when i left for work i noticed my fan came on right when i started the car.

the temp today was around 92+ humid and muggy

I have read other threads about the temp display thing not being lit up then the sensor is bad. My temps are still showing... my car temps (why driving) are around 186 why stopped at a red light (for a long period of time) or stuck in traffic it gets to around 197 sometimes 200.

Just wondering if i should be worried about the temp sensor going out or something??

oh i forgot to add... i have no CEL so wtf?

Air con on = fans on
Air direction setting on defrost or near it = aircon on =fan on

Coolant sensor is probably shot. That or the thermostat. The CEL will pop eventually. If it is a bad sensor, the car will in a sense think its over heating when its not. I had this issue in november. First my coolant sensor failed and I had it fixed. A week later my thermostat died and was stuck open resulting in loud fans and no temp reading. It was a pain in the ass none the less.

the ****** at auto zone gave me the wrong sensor so when i changing them out little did i know that HOT coolant was going to come shooting out of the top of my engine so i freaked and lost the other sensor... i have to go to the auto part store tomorrow morning and get the correct sensor.... is it ok to drive around with the wrong sensor in??????

As long as its not leaking and the coolant is topped up,but the car will drive in closed loop if you just leave it unplugged
so dont be getting on it.

I dont think its a temp sensor problem,if you are getting the reading in the car.
could be relays or like I read in another thread the pcm or ecm having a short.

weird stuff...

So lastnight i got the wrong sensor... the one they gave me was for the 2.2 cobalt. So i was like **** it and put it in and left it unplugged. Of course my temp reads - - - and i get a CEL.

So this morning i wake up and go to the auto parts store and get the correct sensor install it and the fans turn off and everything is A OK

I get in my car and drive to the auto part store to have the code turned off the guy checks the code (PO118) but says by law he cant clear it and goes back into the store... I get in the car and head home but this time when i start it up them damn fans come on again.

Why driving home the CEL cleared its self so when i pulled up to the next red light i turned the car off thinking (cel is gone, now maybe the fans will stay off) that wasnt the case.

I really hope its not me ECM. I dont have 600 to replace it.

Are your relays energized in the fuse box under the hood as if being commanded on by the ecm.Possible short in the wiring going to the relays from the pcm.

Are they turning the correct way, they should be sucking air through the rad and blowing it on the engine.

Are they running on high or low.

As long as your temps are in spec, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Its better to have them running all the time than to not have them on at all.

im having the same problem.. my low speed fans stay running constantly.. when i "key on" they turn on. ive replaced the ECT sensor (which btw i had the same problem with autozone giving me the wrong one) but replacing it didnt do anything.. i have been meaning to change out my thermostat but i keep putting it off cus i hear its a pain in tha ass..im hoping that will take care of it. my coolant temps get to operating temps slowly but i just dont wanna burn up tha fan motors..

the problem is fixed... when Bika tuned my car his fan settings in HPtuners were fucked up for some reason or another. I met up with him this weekend and he reflashed my ECU and now its all fixed. Thanks Bika.
