Well I just got my car back a week later. The clunking noise in gone but now it makes a grinding noise when I hit the brakes. They told me to come in and get it before their christmas staff party because they would all be gone by 5pm. I got there at 5:05 and the dealership was closed. However my car was outside. I used my extra key and drove the thing home. 3 days later I get a call from the dealership telling me that my car is ready and that I can come and pick it up..... Well, I have been driving it for the last three days. They had no idea it was gone. This expalins many of the problems with the manufacturer, the company, the distributors, the dealers and the repairmen. This is why GM is going backrupt. Can you tell i'm pissed off

I really want to lower my car but am worried that it might make the clunk worse???? I either think that it's my strut mount that causing the noise or something that might need more grease.. They replaced everything on my car and fixed the problem but now it's back 4 months later so maybe something needs some grease again.

I only have 17,000km on the engine. It is funny because my brother bought a Honda the same day I bought my car and he has yet to see the dealership. I have been there 4 times for service so far. When they are done with all this crap leaving me with no car for a week at a time they don't even wash the F$%cking thing. I would trade it in but the resale value is 1/2 what I paid for it already. The clunk in the front for all you to know is the wheel bearing. They sieze all the time. That is why you don't hear it at high speed. It rattles the wheel over bumps as well. The dealership is replacing mine for a second time as I place this message. I word of advise...All parts for these problems are back ordered so get it taken care of ASAP or at least call the dealer to tell them so they can't deny service later down the road.
Check your local lemon laws 30 day in the shop or fixing the same thing three times = replacement or money back

It has been in two other times for the same thing and not been fixed and had the intermediate shaft replaced and sound still there.

They gave me an '06 Cobalt base as a loaner. It is white with purple and silver pistripes and the dealer logo on the doors and dealer name in front and rear windows.
They told me that they cannot fix the clunk. They have no idea what it is.

The HVAC case will not leak for them either. Had the GM fix done a few months ago to insert a seal in the case but it still leaks with a/c on but it will not work for them. Probably because it is not hot or humid here.

There was also a metal etching sound from the interior in the rear that they heard yesterday, but it is gone now so they can't fix what they can't hear.

How can I get a lemon? Any suggestions? Try different dealerships because this one says they don't have fix? I want this car to either be fixed properly or gone!

The problem I have with my noise which sounds like all of yours with the clunking or knocking is occasional but annoying it sounds like something is loose it only seems to happen within a couple miles after I get off the highway either going straight or turnings and then gets rapid and louder if I speed up. The dealership can pinpoint unless they can duplicate it but of course it dosent do it when its there. I will stop by the dealership tomorrow and have them check a few things of what I have read about here and see what happens.

i have an 06 ss sc and i am having the clunk when going over bumps and a click when taking off in first or reverse. took it to the dealer once, they tightened the lower control arm and problem came back the next day. personally i think the click is from the cv axle and the clunk is either the struts or strut mounts

Most popular reason for the clunk is bad sway bar links, I believe I'm replacing mine today so if I get em done I'll let you know if it fixes anything.

I had this exact same problem. It'd make the clunking noise mainly when I was coming to a stop, or when I starting moving from a stop, mostly when I had the wheel turned. Well, turned out it was just that 2 of my lugnuts had completely come off somehow, and the wheel was loose, causing it to bump up against the calipers, causing the clunk noise. It dosent make the noise anymore since I fixed that problem, but as for all the other annoying noise........like my driver side window vibrating inside the door, the sunroof rattle, some cliking noise from the back seat somewhere, etc etc........I guess those are just Chevy quirks, lol.

So I took it to Chevy a few weeks back and explained to my service advisor what I am hearing. It's the front suspension, I was told, and there is nothing he or Chevy can do about it. Apparantly, this problem has been in existance since the very first Cobalt and Chevy did repairs at $700 per car, until it got to be too expensive and Chevy decided no more until they can come up with a 'cheaper' fix (no pun intended).

Has anyone had this problem and was able to get it fixed? Has the noise returned? Shouldn't there be a Recall on this?

Another 14,000 miles and I'll either be bald from pulling my long hair out, or driving a Volkswagen!
Please, Chevy, fix my car!!!!

Well I had a rattle noise and my steering wheel rattled when I drive certain speeds and when I stop. My warranty is up, except my powertrain, but that warranty is useless.

I'm going to replace my rotors, brake pads and struts and see if that does the job.. I'll lets ya know if it fixes my problem... Dealers suck

didnt see this posted in here but it could be your control arm bushings as well as the intermediate shaft, ive had both replaced, and i see enough of them in a day with these problems the bushings fall right out.

it is a lower control arm. I almost 100% am sure, i didn't even read all the posts so if someone already said it, sorry. haha but i work at car x and cavi, pts, neons, and balts are horrible for this, also bad on grand ams, take it to another shop and have them look at it, then tell chevy to fix it.
