Well I just wanted to let you all know I solved my LOUD clunking noise...

Turns out one of the tires on my 18's was bad. but when im going 10 km/h or less i can still hear a silent ticking noise. I hope its nothing major, but I will find out and provide updates.

I had the noise pretty bad, it was when i was taking off, turning, or coming to s stop.

It sounded like it was coming from the pass. Side wheel and i could feel it in the pedals.

Took it in, and they replaced the steering column, bulliten for it.

It still made the noise... but like 1/2 as much.

Brought it back, and they said some of the bolts came loose in the transmission mounts, and they torqued down the bolts in the control arms. Got her back, NO NOISE!!!!!!

Had it for 2 days, haven't heard a sound..yet.

Well just to update the noise is back.... this time it coming from the front left instead of the front right... (could be my rim, because I rotated the front two). Will be installing aftermarket control arm bushings to see if this helps (one of my bushings are f*cked anyway)

GM is slowly but surely back-pedalling on Intermidiate Shafts. Every 05,06,07 vehicle is suffering from some sort of steering clunk.
SV6, CK trucks (sierra, silverado), G6, GrandPrix, Impala, Cobalt.
Keep saying the words 'steering clunk' and the dealer will keep replacing I-Shafts.
I have a G6 customer that we have put the 7th different I-shaft in her vehicle this week. Along with 2 steering gears, both side tie rods and one steering column, she called me this morning to tell me the clunk is back.
Seems like the whole 'electronic power steering' needs more attention than the old pump/fluid systems.
I wish I could have 1 hr with the GM engineers! I would shake them and ask WHY!!??!!?!??!

I had my car in the shop because of this problem and they did not do anything because they could “not replicate the problem”
It is getting worst so I am about to take it in for the same problem again.

If they pull that again, then ask if you can take the tech for a drive. You know better than they do how to replicate the problem and when it pops up. Plus they can't easily deny it when you're sitting right there pointing the noise out.

After hearing a little clunk today when backing out of the driveway, I checked the CABs. Sure enough, this is set #2 I've broken, in a matter of months. These are from Intense, the first ones were from JBP.

Unhappy

After starting this thread, my car is now at 47,000 miles. I still have the clunk after several intermediate shafts and whatever was else replaced. I don't even know anymore 'cause nothing helped.

My new issue is when slowly backing into a parking space or adjusting the steering wheel to straighten the wheels after the car is stopped, I am getting a banging noise. Not even a clunk anymore, it's a bang. I have an appointment at my dealer scheduled.

I still can't believe GM is not doing a massive recall on this and the factories still continue to place these defective parts in every Cobalt, Impala, G6, G5, Colorado, etc.!!!! My husband bought a new HHR and just asked me when should he start expecting the clunking noise!!!!

Im dealing with the Lemon law right now and GM denied my claim so now we are going for a lawsuit. It takes a lot of time and patience. Which I dont have any patience and Im ready to pull my hair out. Ive been dealing with this since I bought my car! Ive been dealing with my attorney under the lemon law since Aug 31. just talked to him today and thats when i was informed that GM is being ****** about it so now we are going after them in a lawsuit. Where do you live? I can recommend you to a great attorney

Yeah, that does suck for you. I have a feeling GM will recall all these damn cars. They are having so many problems with them anyway. they shouldnt have put them on the market knowing how junky they are.

GM has had my car for five days and they still can't figure it out. Today they are sending it to a body shop to see if they can figure it out.

Another step in the process

GM sent my Cobalt to a body shop. They discovered the noise is coming from the torque box. They are going to replace that next week and we will see if that fixes it. Of course they will need the car for another four days making the total number of days in the shop ten.

I have had mine back in for a 15th time for problems. They have replaced IM shaft, rotors, front struts, lower control arms, joints, boots..you name it.Now paint flaking off inside car. power window sticks, cars always fogged up, leaking sunroof, power trunk busted, engine light always on. reflashed 2X, caliper replaced, seat belt retractor stuck..ohh thats it. This thing is a $20,000 paper weight. I have had the car for 35,000km. In five years it will be land fill. what a waste of money. I like how this forum started off so possitve, so many teenagers getting their first car. Now they realize how much of a piece of **** they are. Hard lesson to learn for those who aren't rich enough to buy something decent. You think when you buy something new there shouldn't be such a head ache. I bought a nissan skyline just so I had something to drive because this POS is in the shop so much. The dealership doesn't even want it on a trade in. hahaha
