but i thought in new york if they can't fix the problem 4 times then you can file for a lemon.. but then again i have no idea how that works.. i hope they fix my car to soon, u know i spent almost every day at the dealership this week, from like 9 to 1, now they finally give me a loaner car.

 

I just called the dealer and they told me, that they would not even get to my car until Monday. So of course I just let them have it. They told me to drop it off Wednesday night, if they were not going to get to why the heck did I drop it off. I am still waiting for a call back from the manager. It has been an hour now and every minute that goes by I am getting more angry.

 

Wanted to give you guys an update. Well this noise has stumped both the dealer and GM, so I am picking up my car after they have had it since last Wednesday night and I will return it when GM comes out. As soon as it is diagnosed, I will post here so you guys can get yours fixed too.

 

Well, GM just called the dealer and told them to replace both CV Shafts. (Which is what my husband kept telling them was most likely the problem). So let's see if this fixes the problem. I will be picking up the car tomorrow night and will post the results....

 

thats funny cause my car has been at the dealership for a while now and the dealer said they have no idea what the problem is.. they have gm as well coming to look at it..

 

they've been trying to fix this problem for 2 weeks now, on top of that my car has been at the dealership for over a week, i'm gonna file for a lemon if they don't get me my car back fixed within the next three days.

 

i just got the clunk fixed.. They replaced both front struts.

 

mmmmm CV Shafts maybe i need those what would i feel driving if those were bad

 

I know mine isn't struts, because the noise does not occur going over bumps. Just with shifting when the car moves forward and backwards, not up and down.

 

ok, here is the updated. According to my dealership, the car is fixed no more noise. They replaced both CV Axles. Hope this helps everyone.

 

Hey, this is my second post and I have a week old 2007 Black LT with 215 miles. After taking in my car three times to get a scratched dask fixed(was there when I picked it up), and noticed a clunk or grunt sound from the rear right. I took the service tech out and as soon as we pulled out of the dealership, it made the noise and thats all that he needed to hear. Now I read through the whole thread, but does anyone know what is most likely causing this noise?

 

yep... my car def makes this clunking noise.... its pretty damn annyoing... grrr i hope this is an easy quick fix

 

i hear the same knocking sound when i make right turns though. what could this possible be i jus got the car a week ago an only 2k miles

 

i had this steering clunk fixed prolly 5 months back. The replace the driver strut, itermediate shaft, and then finally the steering coloumn and motor. Well i'm starting to experience this clunk again in my steering coloumn again??? Has anyone else had this problem fixed and having it come back?

 

how are ur rotors...they in good shape? i got that clankin noise due to my rotors being warped cuz i guess for some reason when they get hot it happened..its a problem with some cobalts..look into it.

 

my clunkin was that plastic peice on the bottom of the heat exchanger

 

I have an 05 Cobalt sedan with 54,000 miles on it. Clunking in the left front started around 12,000 miles. Steering shaft was replaced and I still had a clunk. I have just kinda learned to live with it. I'm really glad I joind the group today and read this post. Rest assured I'm heading back to the dealership. I also have an 06 LS Coupe that I purchased back in March. its at 14,000 miles with no noises from the suspension...the radio is another story.

I have a 2006 ss and it is a piece of crap. I have had all the rotors replaced, the intermediate shft replaced, 2 front struts replaced, clutch relay switch replaced, caliper seized, wheel bearings replaced and the damn thing is still in the shop. I only have 17,000km on the engine. It is funny because my brother bought a Honda the same day I bought my car and he has yet to see the dealership. I have been there 4 times for service so far. When they are done with all this crap leaving me with no car for a week at a time they don't even wash the F$%cking thing. I would trade it in but the resale value is 1/2 what I paid for it already. The clunk in the front for all you to know is the wheel bearing. They sieze all the time. That is why you don't hear it at high speed. It rattles the wheel over bumps as well. The dealership is replacing mine for a second time as I place this message. I word of advise...All parts for these problems are back ordered so get it taken care of ASAP or at least call the dealer to tell them so they can't deny service later down the road.

 

I have had the same problem today and called the dealer there is a problem with the intermediate shaft have it looked at soon.

 

just noticed it today font driver side, intermediate shaft needs to be replaced made appointment.

 

I have had my intermediate shaft replaced and still have the clunk.

I am really pissed about it because mainly because it is annoying, but I also don't have time to take it in!

 

My car has a steering clunk issue and the dealership has replaced the intermediate shaft twice, front driver strut and strut mount, steering column and steering motor. The clunk was fixed for about 4 months and now its back again. I'm prolly not going to bring my car back cause it's not like it affects my driving it's just annoying. Do you think if I lower my car it would make my problem worse or not affect anything?

 

Currently have my car in the dealership for this as we speak. They heard the sound, finally, but have no clue what it is and are keeping it for a while. Lemon? (I really want an SS/SC or something)

It has been in two other times for the same thing and not been fixed and had the intermediate shaft replaced and sound still there.

They gave me an '06 Cobalt base as a loaner. It is white with purple and silver pistripes and the dealer logo on the doors and dealer name in front and rear windows.

 

yea they gave me a loner for like a week and half... they fixed the problem before but now it's back which makes me mad.. I really don't feel like bringing it back to the dealer again.

 

Do you think Chevy will eventually do a recall on this? My dealer really won't do anything else to fix the problem, they only replaced the intermediate shaft once. It really didn't correct the noise. I came *thisclose* to trading it on an a SS/non-SC and the more I thought about it, I didn't want to sink my money into another clunking noise problem. Once my Cobalt is paid off, it's gone, sad to say. I wonder if the Pontiac G5's have the same problem.......
