Gas smell? LAME!

hey guys,

I totally need some help! I just replaced my purge solenoid, and now im getting a stong smell of gas when I go high in rpm's or anything above 3rd gear. Never smelt that before I changed the purge, so it is the solenoid or something diff? I drove my car around for a little bit, the fueled up to make sure the solenoid issue was fixed and thats when the gas smell started in. Now its so bad after just fixing it yesterday that Im floatin while I drive! ugh I need help!

never heard of that happening before. sounds like a fuel leak of some sort? do you know where the smell specifically comes from?

Does your car leak fuel under the fuel tank after its parked?
There is a special policy "recall" (sort of) on the fuel pumps on some years in some locations for cracking. Happened to me last year. Took to the dealership and they fixed it for free. Just make sure when you take it you have low gas so they can drop the tank. If that is what your problem is. I never smelt gas while driving though, so park your car, shut it off and look for fuel leaking under the gas tank in the rear.

well I cant smell anything under the hood, I can only smell it inside thru the dash vents and when I stand either back quarter pannel I can smell it there too. Im thinkin either the evap line or the fuel line may have a leak? Im not seeing any puddling. I also heard that if you top off right after you install the purge it can leave fuel in the canister?

I think it was the line and pump houseing thats cracked and leaks fuel. The pump pumps more then what fits out the crack but you loose your prime if your car sits for a while so it takes more cranking to start unless you turn the key to on and wait till it stops before you start. Look for fuel on the bottom of the back of your car/ rear axle area.

You can get the fuel sending unit replaced under recall, take it in and tell them that when you fill it up you get a strong smell of gas.

I got mine replaced because of this, its actually where the pipes go into the tank, there is a 90* bend that cracks and lets our the vapors.

Awesome that this is such a new thread, just recently starting having the issue in my 06 SS, I'll try to take it to the dealership on my next day off.

If I can check anybody's vehicles for recalls/warranty information, don't hesitate to send me a private message that includes the last 8 of your VIN.
