Gearbox problems HELP!
I just got my gearbox replaced a month ago and i notice the new one felt different than the old one, then again they always will. Except the new one i notices it was hard to put into reverse. Also when i would shift into second it will pop out for gear before i realese the clutch sometimes. I have to make sure i hold second gear down or else ill grind my gears. I talked to the mechanic and he said it could be some transmission stuff but i told him it NEVER did this with the old gearbox.. Any ideas or tips on what i should do or what it could be???

Take it back and get them to adjust the shift cables. They would have to take them off to pull the old transmission and likely didn't get them adjusted quite right when they reinstalled.
Don't let them charge you either, they shouldn't complain too much because it is a pretty easy job - and they DID mess it up to begin with
My $0.02 anyways.

so you're saying they would have to take the transmission out to adjust them?? I do know they didn't take it out to replace the gear box. Thanks for replying though

They don't need to take the trans out. They need to remove your shift boot from the console, reach in, and adjust the shifter cables where they attach to the shifter. It's an easy job that should take someone that's done it before less than 15 minutes to do. Sounds like they skipped that step or didn't do it very well.

Sorry but this makes no sense. A gearbox is a transmission. If they replaced the gear box, they replaced the transmission. Therefore, the transmission has been taken out. That being said, no it does not need removed to adjust the cables. The shifter end can be accessed by removing the part of the console that the shift boot is in. The trans end can be accessed by removing the fuse box.

Then they didn't replace what you are saying they did. Like I said a gear box is a transmission so if they actually did replace the gear box, it's been out of the car. If you are referring to the differential, I suppose it could be replaced with the transmission in the car, but that would be kinda hard since the trans needs taken apart to access it. What exactly are you referring to when you say gear box?
