GF's celica is doing some weird stuff! HELP
Sorry if I put this in the wrong section, but noone can seem to figure out whats wrong with this hunk of junk. So she has a 2002 toyota celica. This thing is horrible, all sorts of problems.
She was driving up to her internship, when the car started decelerating in 5th gear. She couldn't get it to accelerate at all. She slowed down and pulled off the road, turned the car off, and started it back up. When she started it back up she said it didn't sound like it was running smoothly, so she shut it off and had it towed back to a shop.
OF COURSE!! They had 0 issues with it, started up fine, they drove it around town, on the freeway, NOTHING! There are no codes, so thats fun. I dont really know where to start here.
The car already is burning oil, the piston ring going, guess its a common issue with the car (great). I ran a compression test on it though about a month ago, and compression was 189, 184, 184, 184. So I dunno.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated! Sorry i couldn't explain it better, but this is just what the woman is tellin me.

Is it a gt or a gts? The gts had a recall for rocker arm bolts, and they tend to blow up. I have know like 6 people that have blown them for different reasons. If its a gt you have my interest because the wife has a corolla s. basically same car.
Maybe the fuel pump is crapping out.

its a gt, and your corolla wouldn't have the same issues I would hope. The 2000 - 2002 had a faulty piston ring, it was oversized to compensate for the undersized pistons (thanks toyota). This causes premature wear on the rings, and massive oil consumption. I thought maybe fuel pump, or maybe something to do with her throttle body? The car didn't shut off, it just stopped going, slowed down, wouldn't deliver more fuel or anything.
Another problem is it has a slight ticking that sounds like pebbles or sand in a tin can. Its super annoying, and the only thing I can think of for this one is the cat has went bad. Its not rod knock, and the sound is not even but inconsistent, so I wouldn't assume its valves. Seems like a part is just hoppin around in the engine! But it woulda blown up by now if that were the case (at least I assume).
