Got back from the dealership

Well I noticed my clutch started to slip a little so I went to the dealership today to get it fix...Well after around 40 minutes he tells me that I won't like the cost...1500 bucks to replace my clutch/flywheel. Worst part is he never did check my car and I went in the dealership thinking that this is part of drivetrain(which it is) but he said that's a wearable items and that its not covered. So I told him I will drive it like it is until I can find the money to buy an aftermarket clutch and flywheel.

What's the point of having a warranty when everything I go in for is not covered.

Keep in mind I only had the car for around 4k miles. But its used so that doesn't matter to them.

Btw, if you have a used oem or aftermarket clutch with pad still left on it let me know.

42,000 miles which I understand you can blow a clutch out in less than that but considering that they changed a clutch out under warranty for a guy that had 54,000 miles on his car its sickens me. Then when I told them that he told me it was a long time ago and they couldn't do that anymore. Then I went back in to the shop to see if I could get a warranty sheet because everytime I go in there for warranty work its not covered. And the top warranty guy got pissed and said "you know what a clutch looks like?...I don't think you do,come here." Then he shows me another ss with a bad clutch.

Then he tries to tell me how it works and says its your foot its your clutch.

goto a different dealer. trust me. and they should have had the tech drive it or better yet you go with the service manager and let him drive it and it is covered under the 5yr/60k powertrain warrenty unless they see u dog the **** out of it which i doubt u do. and if all else fails look into the gm clutch upgrade kit alot less and u can reuse your flywheel as they can resurface it. hope this helps my man i'll check on the status of ur car on here tonight when i get to louisiana. best of luck!!!

the clutch is never covered because it is a ware item, there are cases were it might be covered if it fails with in the first few thousand miles. 1500 bucks sounds about right for a stealer-ship most of that is probably labor.
look at the gm clutch upgread ... http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...2-P2301C0.aspx its at lest as good as oem lol, and its pretty cheap. the flywheel can be resurfaced and shouldn't be more that 50 bucks to have it done.
then you can find another shop to do the install , id guess its an 5-8hr job(never done it on an cobalt ,but took me about 6hr to do on my old car) so labor should be around 300-500 bucks.

and as for tuning look up hatrickstu...

hmm my service manager told me its covered unless they just dont want too. then again were in the top 20 service places in the usa...he says usually the small places dont want to cover it because of everything going on...

You work for Gm?

If so I would actually drive where you work at to fix it. Because honestly I don't have 5-600 bucks to fix it much less 1500 and I wouldn't pay the dealership jack.

all else fails..if you buy a clutch kit from ZZP they will install it for 500 bucks.. so you can get a hi performance clutch kit and have it installed for around 1000..

Well to me they are to far for me to actually drive. I can put the clutch in it but honestly it's a pain in the rear to do and I would honestly rather pay someone on here couple bens to do it for me. I will even help if needed.

Clutch and brakes are both wear items not covered under warranty unless CLEARLY a manufacturer defect. Meaning....it fails in the first 5k miles or less on the car.

If there are dealers covering it, good for them, they're just trying to bilk money from GM. If a GM rep catches on to the scam, it will not end pretty.

Yea Well I figured that out earlier today. I may just take my vacation money and put in a clutch. Any suggestion of a awesome clutch that won't break the bank?

Spec makes good clutches . GM's upgraded clutch has been praised by those who have it , and it's cheap ....one of the cheapest. I would go with the GM clutch unless your going to build the LSJ to over 300 wtq.

Read your owners manual, it even states in there that the clutch is a wear item and is only covered under 12/12. The point of the warranty is to cover manufactorers defects, not R-Tards who cant drive stick.

I appreciate you calling me a r-tard...Not to be rude but you didn't spell manufacturer correct. Besides, I doubt I could have done that much damage in 4k miles considering I've drove plenty of stick cars with no problems.

@rukkee: yea that is an awesome price but right now im not sure what im going to do power wise with my car.

I wasnt calling you an R-Tard, it was aimed towards the original owner. Thank you for pointing out my spelling error.

Well im somewhat for me thinking it could be under warranty; I went on the fact that another guy got it fix under warranty. I didn't really do any research at all.

Talking

Perhaps this may be a good place to ask this question. Does the LSJ clutch work in the other 2.2's?

I ask because I just installed a SC kit on my 2009 Pontiac G5 GT 2.2 LAP engine and I have around 275 HP and I was thinking I should research this as it may greet me soon.

I was thinking if the LSJ clutch worked then I could just get the upgraded GM Performance Parts clutch.

im gonna guess not due to the different trannys, im also i know the lsj uses a different flywheel ... ether way it seems easier to just go with the aftermarket clutch for the 2.2 i see them pretty cheap.

No it does not. You'll have to get an aftermarket 2.2/2.4 clutch.
