Grinding into gears (repeating issue)
I was just wondering if any of you were having issues with your cobalt grinding into third and fourth gear. I had it fixed and now it's doing it again. It mainly happens when I down shift but it does do it when I up shift also. It will be going in soon for the second time to be fixed and one more time after that I think I will be pushing for the lemon law.

never grinded a gear unless it was just a bad shift.
is it a syncrho problem or are you letting the clutch out too early

I think its a synchro problem with the new 08's. me and this guy arent the only 08's that this has been happening too, especially in only 3rd and 4th.....trust me, i'm not shifting stupid, its just a problem with these cars it seems like. Like i said earlier, it happened to me driving it off the lot with 45 miles on the clock. My black 07 did not have this problem at all

My 07 does this as well, has since I bought it but usually only in 3rd. I thought at first it just needed to be broken in so I let it go until now. I don't drive it hard too often and even then I'm easy on the transmission. I took it to the dealer and after 4 hours their response was that it was due to "aftermarket floor mats"! They said the floor mat wasn't allowing the clutch to engage all the way. I called BS and asked why it only happened in 3rd but they didn't have a good answer. Just to make sure that I wasn't wrong I took the mat out and drove it and of course it still did it. I guess I will have to take it back with no mats and see what they say

Haha I couldn't believe it myself. I had to laugh though at the way he said "aftermarket" floormats! Lol Evidently that's the key word for denying warranty work! He pointed me towards the parts department and told me to pick up some cobalt specific floormats and that would fix the problem

yeah they told me the same **** with the floormats also I told them to where to stick it. Then I took the matts out and it still did it they then fixed it. Now it's doin it again. It does it all the time low RPM and high as long as it's a downshift and sometimes upshift. I bought the car with one mile on it and it's done it ever since. I'm easy on the car most of the time I do race it in a series but we only had one event so far. So now it's goin in again and we will see after that.

So I was getting ready to leave work the other day and when I went to put my car in reverse it was so hard to do I had to use two hands. I got off the clutch before doin that to see if it was just being crazy but it wasn't. Then pulled it out of gear and tried it again and then it grinded and thuded into gear. WTF is the deal with these transmissions. There is a guy from GM and he is located in Detroit and he will personally go out and look at the problem if you are within a 100 mile radious of Detroit. This guy only deals with the cobalt trans issue that's it so if you have a trans issue and want to get it fixed and live within 100 miles of Detroit then your in luck.

Yeah the dealer told me to keep a close watch on what goes on with the trans so I think they will fix that problem also I don't know what the lemon law consists of but I think I am close to having that issue also
