I'm sure you could go 15-20k easy on synthetic, maybe not in a boosted application but n/a. I know I let my work van go for 15k on non synthetic and it looked fine lmao.

i just switched to mobil 1 extended life full synthetic 5w-30. im going on 5k on this oil change so far with no intentions of changing it until the oil life indicator tells me too.. its supposedly good for 15k, but i dont know if my filter is even good for that long

i change my oil and filter every 3k with ACdelco filter and Castrol non-synthetic, i never go by the oil change gauge and have just under 32000 on the clock (bought car brand new July '07 with 16 miles on it)

i use to do the same every 3k... but then i kept hearing about this big hype on synthetic.. n honestly its worth spending the $55 per oil change when you only have to do it every 10k. miles add up fast for me so it seemed i was constantly changing oil before..

yea i hear ya man but i don't rack up the miles too much, and if i get a job with a company car the cobalt will only get run on weekends... for me it's about $20 bucks an oil change since i do them myself so all in all i wouldn't save all that much by going synthetic right now

Mobil 1 full Synthetic is the best oil I have ever used, heard lots of hype on the Amsoil and yeah Mobil 1 beats them too.

Wix filters and oil comes out looking pretty good for 5000 miles, I just dont trust going over that many miles.

Luckily im shop mangar so price isnt a problem for me I just use our lifts and buy the oil from Walmart.

Valvoline full synthetic and 5k between changes wouldn't want to go much longer on a filter, $50 is cheap engine insurance IMO... Just tore down an engine that was destroyed by lack of oil due to sludge

Just to let u guys know most high mileage oils are basically 50/50 full syn and conventional oils so it's like a mixbreed oil. Nothing wrong with it just letting u know

Can you elaborate???

I have used many, Mobile 1(stock), Amsoil, Royal Purple, and currently Penzoil Ultra. I change my oil every 3k. Next will be Castrol Syntec.

Penzoil has a waxy material in their oil and it sludges to a thick white/brown film and is a bitch to ever clean out. Our shop does oil changes and Penzoil customers always have that thck film on/in the engine where the oil fill cap is.

Paraffin wax I believe if memory serves me correct, all tho not allowing your engine to reach operating temp can cause build up with any oil

BG make an excellent cleaner did an oil change on my service writers 90 something surb.put new oil in checked it and was clean, put the cleaner in let it run for 15-20 min and the oil looked as dirty as the old oil. I would give that a try before tearing it down

BG quick clean for engines is what its called
