John gave some pretty good reasoning and evidence on why to stick with 5w30.

If you played around at GMSC more, you'd know this.

Very different when you have a stock engine compared to running the recommended oil by a machine shop based on how they gapped the rings in your built motor that you drive in FL...

I've been stopping in to GMSC lately but there hasn't been much going on.

I run Mobil 1 5-30 Extended Performance. Change it every 5-6K. i drive 40 miles one way to work.

I was reading my log today actually. Jan 8th 2012 i changed the oil with 146,8xxK miles tonight on my way home from work i should hit 149K. so a little over 2K miles a month.

So 3 pages in and Mobile 1 5w30 seems to the most popular by a mile.

I never expected this thread to grow like this lol but hey there is alot of trial and error going on and so far no disaster stories so thats a positive.

Waste of money. Changing your oil at 3,000 miles is something that went out the window over 20 years ago. Do at least 5,000 miles.

I change mine about ever 3-4 months. Or 3-4 times a year. Usually before winter, after winter. Then mid summer.

Whatever is on sale.

Wink To about 30 or so percent on the Oil Life Monitor.

Whatever mileage that may be. Seems like it has been in the 5K range in most cases. I use whatever is on sale, provided it meets GM4718M specs.

And. AC Delco filters , although ,y Wally World is on crack - for what they ask for 1 , I can get 2 at Advanced Auto.

The oil , though - cheap - like 25 bux or less for 5 quarts at Wally World. Pretty much can't beat it.

My .02.

Mobil 1 5w30 and mobil 1 filter when OLM gets below 50%... Mobil 1 and K&N filters hold up better than the others, the cheapos and even the delcos break apart over long intervals. I have replaced a couple of heads because filter media got stuck in the orifice.
